I''m about to buy a 2 carat Radiant Square diamond that looks very nice. A really nice sparkle off it.

It''s a G color with SI1 with no fluorescence. The polish and symmetry both are rated Excellent. The measurements are 7.08 x 7.05 x 4.95.

The depth is 70.3 % and the table is 67 % (is this good/bad/ok???). And it has a girdle rated thick-very thick.

It seems like a very nice diamond, but with a thick girdle and 70.3 depth, will I lose too much of the diamond below the setting?

Any comments about the ring would be helpful.

It''s about 14k -- don''t know if that helps.

Hi Sean,

I will give you the link to a guide on Emerald cut/Radiant stones. We can't really tell you a whole lot, fancies need to be seen. I can say that yes, with the depth/girdle where they are, you're most likely going to lose some face up size, but I couldn't say how much.

The price doesn't seem too bad really, so you might bring it home and have an independant appraiser take a look at it, but only if the place you are getting it from has a great return policy.

Ditto, it looks promising on paper but radiants can't be judged by numbers - they really have to be seen. If you have time, you could order an ASET scope which would really help you.

That''s a good idea!

Sean, I don''t know why, because you never said one way or the other, but I just got the feeling this stone was local. But if it''s from an internet vendor, would it be possible to get an ASET or Idealscope picture from them? If that''s not the case, then Lorelei''s suggestion might be the way to go.

I did too! If it is with an internet vendor then definitely request images.
