I saw a picture of an emerald cut diamond on the Fay Cullen site, this:

http://www.faycullen.com/diamond_rings/800/d821r4de.html

and in several of the pictures the colors seem to be glowing from the inside. Emerald owners, does this make any sense?

Is there some way to know how/ where to buy an emerald cut diamond, or is it just considered to be a difficult thing to do like buying an asscher?

I liked Asscher-lover's ring and now this stone- I'm thinking I might like step cuts. I never thought about them before. It seems like it would be SO easy to go to GOG or WF and pick out a round, but maybe an emerald cut not so much.

You can't buy an EC by the numbers so much, you need detailed pics of the diamond and preferably an ASET image if available at a minimum. There are charts available, but it is suggested the numbers are used as a guide only. An expert vendor like GOG or WF can certainly be of assistance when purchasing, as they can use their expertise to help you find a beautiful stone.

I also love the tint the stone displays being an M colour.

I love a bit of tint in a diamond, generally speaking, the larger the stone, the more a tint may show. Also step cut like an EC may also show more tint than a round, even though we can't tell for sure with a pic on a computer, it does give some idea. There was a member here who had an M colour EC, and it almost had a pinky blush tint to it, gorgeous stone!!

ETA- here it is!! https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/saritas-rings.31974/

Fascinating! Especially the pictures on page 2. Gorgeous stone. Yes, I agree. I like it better than her pear. Thanks!

I am glad you liked it! I adore that stone and it is a good example to show how sometimes a little tint can present itself.

Emeralds are so different; not everyone likes them. They are as hard to shop for as asschers but for those who love them, it''s worth the time and effort. I like to use the AGA cut chart as a starting guide which states the following:

Colour: H and better because fancies like ECs tend to show body colour. This is subjective to the wearer''s taste/tolerance level because in this case, you like the tint.
Clarity: VS2 and better. No point getting VVS because even with a VS, you can''t see a thing and I haven''t seen any eye clean SI1s.
Table: 65% and under to avoid a glassy look and for more fire
Depth: 68% and under to avoid having a smaller diameter diamond
Crown height: 10% and higher for more fire
Girdle: Avoid very thin and under, very thick and over to avoid chipping and hidden weight. An even medium girdle is very hard to find so don''t aim for one.
Polish: Very Good and better
Symmetry: Very Good and better

Also, you''ll need to ask the vendor to provide a magnified picture of the stone (table and side girdle view) as well as ASET pictures.

Excellent, Chrono. Thank you.

You are most welcome.
