I think I FINALLY decided on a setting - what do you think?

I have decided to get off the crazy train! Plus, I need this ring in a month...yikes!!!

So, after ALL the back and forth and back and forth I just decided to send Adam pictures of my inspiration rings and I think I have come full circle. The pics I sent him are of Haven's ring and the JbEG Julia. This is what I have really wanted all along and then I went off in all different kinds of tangents. If you all remember the problem I was having in my last thread was how to marry my two favorite rings and not copy either. Here is what I told Adam:

for reference:
Haven's ring https://www.pricescope.com/communit...y-2-30-ct-omb-antique-cushion-upgrade.158760/
JbEG Julia http://jewelsbyericagrace.smugmug.c...turing/12794553_8DFVw7#!i=822099885&k=3zGWzdc

-All yellow gold - NOT two tone
-Make the outline of the basket the same shape as Haven's ring...nice and curvy.
-the part of the basket where Haven's has milgrain will be milgrain on both sides with single cut pave...so like the JbEG Julia.
-double claw prongs instead of single but placement same as Haven's
-fleur de lis detail on side of shank coming up to the pave band. The fleur de lis is not super curvy though like Havens and the metal will be rounded like the Julia.
-the shank will go straight across on the bottom so no fleur de lis in the front.

I hope that makes sense.

Feedback?

I kind of get the idea and I will be very interested to see how it turns out! I think you are wise to go with what you really want! Hopefully Adam will do drawings or CADs for you so you can tweek the design if needed?

He is going to do a CAD. I will try to draw a picture, but they are quite difficult for me. ;)

Okay...this is my best picture although I can't get the prongs to look right.

Also, I found this on some random site a long time ago...hope it's ok I post it. It is the example of why I want to do the prongs this way:

Love this! I really like the double claw prongs! I think you have done a terrific job!

Re: I think I FINALLY decided on a setting - what do you thi

I do have one little bit of feedback, though. From that size view, those prongs are swooping out very close to the base of the ring which is going to make it hard to wear a wedding band with it. I might make them go up a little before they swoop out, or else sit them on a doughnut.

Really!?!? I am so happy to hear that. I liked it in my head but have a hard time drawing it. I just had to pull the trigger and go with my gut. So glad you approve! :appl: :appl: :appl:

I will mention that to Adam. I think I figured they were on a donut, but the picture doesn't reflect that. :D

Re: I think I FINALLY decided on a setting - what do you thi

Ok, do mention it because he might not realize that. I like doughnut personally. And tell him you want to be able to wear a band without banging against those prongs so he''ll be sure to make it so it doesn't.

But I really do like that a lot! It also reminds me a little of my daughter's Vatche Caroline but with the double claw prongs, milgrain and the detail where the cathedral joins the basket.

Oh I think it is a beautiful design. I wonder how it would look instead of the struts bubbling out if they curved in- instead. would that help the ring with a more graceful effect? Regardless I love it and I personally adore the double prongs.

Thanks Sarahbear!

Okay...don't laugh, but are the struts the bottom part of the prongs?

The way I envision it is like Haven's ring in terms of the shape of the basket/prongs, but with the double prong instead. I'm not sure if my drawing does that justice.

Re: I think I FINALLY decided on a setting - what do you thi

Her prongs aren't swooping out as much as your drawing is showing. I think if they go up more like Haven's, you won't have as much problem with a band. That is the problem with the Sophie, the head is very low and the prongs swoop out, so I think it would have this problem.

I just looked again, though, and Haven's will have a gap due to the little rose gold thingys that stick out some on the sides. Yours won't have that part, so you avoid that. I think adding the doughnut and making the prongs not quite as bowed outward will fix it.

Okay...here is another attempt at drawing...

I actually like a small gap, but I don't want damage.

Re: I think I FINALLY decided on a setting - what do you thi

Yes, I think that is better. I am exactly the same in that I like a small gap, usually provided by the doughnut. I just don't want the edge of my band hitting prongs.

I think this will be very beautiful!!! Very much what I like, too! As a matter of fact, I had though of Victor adapting his solitaire similar to this with decorating the cross bar of the basket either with diamonds or engraving and milgrain with double claw prongs. But I had to let the setting idea go, because I am not buying a new setting until I am 110% sure I am on my final diamond!!!

Yep! That makes sense. I probably should be doing the same but I want this ring for my anniversary, darn it! :naughty: Well, I can be a guinea pig for this type of design then and you then you can perfect it!

Re: I think I FINALLY decided on a setting - what do you thi

You probably haven't wasted as much money as I have on settings, though. So you go right ahead and get what you want! I just haven't 100% decided on my diamond yet.

Re: I think I FINALLY decided on a setting - what do you thi

That peach gold ring with the split prongs is mine actually. I posted it on another forum just this past February, but due to the center stone, should probably not be posted here. :)

ETA: I love you design as well. It is very graceful and fluid.

Oh...okay...how do I remove a picture???

By the way, it's a gorgeous ring!

Re: I think I FINALLY decided on a setting - what do you thi

thanks!! I have no idea how, but I have better prong pics, if you need them.

Re: I think I FINALLY decided on a setting - what do you thi

The peach gold ring is stunning (I thought it looked like rose gold! Wish the pic was larger, though, so I could see the colors and details better! Why would you want to remove the picture? That's one of the prettiest rings I've seen  I absolutely love it and wouldn't hesitate to replicate it myself! That is, if the owner didn't mind someone copying her lovely ring?

She said it should be removed because of the center stone. I assume that means it is not a diamond. Anyway, I just didn't want to break the PS rules.

I cannot post them here, but, this is the thread, but if linking to there is a no-no, I do apologize mods.

I am always flattered if someone is inspired by one of my rings. I hope they would not make an exact copy, but there is nothing I can do if they do. :)

Thanks! It's nice to see a close up of those beautiful prongs. Don't worry...I'm sticking with my design...it has similar elements but definitely not a copy. ;)

We would have never known any problem about the setting posted had it not been mentioned, but I do know it is against the rules to link to another jewelry forum.
