I have been on quite the journey in regards to finding the right solitaire setting for my round brilliant diamond. The first solitaire setting I got was ruined by a jeweler while sizing it, the second setting I got was a knife-edge (which I turned out not liking because I couldn't find a wedding band that really pleased me to go with it), and the third setting (the setting in which my diamond is currently in) is so poorly made that I can't take it any longer! Sadly, a PS vendor made the setting that I currently have--it really is embarressing to show it off. Alas, I shouldn't have kept it, but I felt bad returning it for the second time. Yes, I am fully aware that I am an idiot for eating $1,200! I'm at a loss- I just want a final setting that I am completely happy with! I already have my wedding band (only 3 more months until I get to wear it), and it is a channel set band that my FI had custom made from past anniversary diamonds.

Here's where you pricescopers come into play: I am looking for a thin-ish contour setting. I've noticed that most contour settings are pretty wide (3.5-4 mm), but I would like one that is 2.5-3 mm. I also noticed that contour settings are rounded, and my wedding band is a flat edge. Do any of you know of a contour setting that is flat edge and kind of thin? I want this setting to sit flush with my wedding band, too. Is my best bet to get one custom made? I'm not sure I want to do that.

Picture, any particular settings in mind, thoughs???? Help me end this pain-staking journey!!!!!!!!

I am not sure what you mean by contour setting. Can you show us a picture of one?

I refuse to do business with JA, for various reasons.

I can't find a picture that will allow me to copy and paste, but if you go to google images and type in "contour engagement ring settings" you will see pictures. Basically, it is a cathedral setting; however, the cathedral hugs the shaft and prongs real closely so that there isn't a gap in the cathedral....does that make sense? It's hard to describe.

You're getting warmer with that setting, but believe it or not, I want an even simpler ring than that. Actually, there is a pricescoper that has a "cathedral tulipset" ring on here with a princess cut stone. I'm not sure if ya'll recall that ring, but her cathedral is along the lines of a contour setting.

Here is an addy to a contour setting that I am considering....is it too wide? Do you think it is rounded or flat-edge? I really want a flat-edge so that it matches my wedding band.

I think the one I posted could be easily customized to not have the surprise diamond. What about getting one where the head is integrated into the shank? I think that is a much more elegant and finished look for a ring. As far as the one you posted, it looks flat?

is this more along the lines of what you are looking for- cathedral setting with no gap by the prongs

or this??

i think the last one I posted is a knife edge- but if anyone of those are close to what you want you could contact the vendor and inquire about having the shank be flat- no knife edge...
