I need some help with this ring, please

I figured this would be a good place to inquire about my recent find.

I dug this ring up while metal detecting a couple days ago.. It was found in a very old cow pasture that dates back to early 1800's.. I'm pretty certain that it is indeed a ring that's missing pieces from the top.

What do you think? Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

The first thought I had, was attachment pieces that fit into those slots, to move things, like tiny hooks for hay or gosh only knows..but I don't think it's jewelry for jewelry sake, more like working farm hand hardware.

It do look like a ring but it's a metal and it is possible that it is being made for creating the best out of it. It might be made as the hardware that works quite well for some kind of farm works. I'm not sure what it can be or what could be it's use.
