Hello All,
I am having trouble understanding a few things. I am looking over my e-ring purchase paperwork and I just want to understand a few things. We went to a local jewelers here since this was an insurance claim. I've always been weary of local jewelers and skeptical of their pricing. Any who. My (I think) appraisal was done by the jeweler who sold us the diamond and setting. The appraisal is labeled as "Statement of Replacement Cost". Is this a true appraisel? It lists the ring with the price that was paid for the diamond and the setting as the replacement amount.
Should I seek another appraisel? If so how do I do that?

Hi There,

Will your insurance carrier accept a Statement of Replacement Cost? If so, you won't need an appraisal. I you do need a "true" appraisal that lists all of the specifications of the item, you can get one from (probably) any reputable private jeweler (graduated, professional gemologist) in your area.

I found some detailed information about what an appropriate appraisal should contain: http://m.palagems.com/choosing-an-appraiser/
