Hello all, newbie here.
BF and I are planning to get engaged soon, and after my research on here and other sites, I've decided I love OMC and antique cushion cuts. After shopping at the one local place I know of the sells vintage/antique jewelry and finding nothing I loved, our plan is for him to choose a loose stone (either antique cushion or a more cushion-y shaped OMC) at OWD/online somewhere and I can choose a setting for it. Problem is, I can't seem to find one I love.
I really like there settings:

http://erstwhilejewelry.com/product-item/1-01-carat-asscher-cut-diamond-engagement-ring-by-tiffany-and-co/
but can't seem to find anything similar and was hoping someone had recommendations, our budget for the whole thing is 3k. Thanks!

Hi vintagesparkleslover! I love the old stones as well - if I'd found PS a little sooner, I might have gone that way myself! (Shhhh!! Don't tell the hubbs!)

I would recommend Single Stone. They have some of the most beautiful vintage-looking settings I've seen. Also, if you find one you like but want to change a few things to suit you, it can be customized.

You are unlikely to be able to find both a diamond and a setting from Single Stone for a budget of $3000 or under. Is that $3000 budget just for the setting?

If you are thinking about buying the diamond from OWD, it might be worth asking if they could do something for you in-house. Other potential sources for vintage-look settings might be Beverley K, and Gabriel NewYork.

Oops! I thought the 3K was for the setting. I'm sorry, OP!
Gabriel & Co. would most likely be your best choice.

OP, how much of the $3K would you like to put towards the stone? Would you rather have a smaller stone with the setting you want, or a larger stone with a less expensive setting? Knowing what is important to you will definitely impact the suggestions given here. :halo:

Thanks for the replies/suggestions! Single stone is lovely, but unfortunately likely out of our budget as it is 3K for the stone + setting (It'd be fun to have a larger budget to work with, but I'm finishing my last year of medical school and have so much in student loans and expenses for residency apps/interviews this year, so this is all we can justify spending). I'll definitely have to check out the other places linked to though. And as far as how much of the budget goes toward the stone, that is variable and really depends on the settings I find... I bookmarked stones on OWD that I like based on the pic ranging from ~1200 to ~2800 (and those were all around the same 0.8 to 0.9 ish range for size), and have realized in research thus far that I'm sort of picky about details that I do/don't like in a setting. Most of what I've looked at thus far has been either too tall, or the band/shank too wide, or only accommodates a round stone

Also check out jewelsbyericagrace.com. I know they JUST got in a parcel of .75-.99 ct stones, though I don't know the prices. They are great to work with and carry a nice array of pretty things.

What are you comfortable with color in regards to color/clarity? A lot of people like a little warmth in their old cut stones. Also, the old cuts don't show color like the moderns do.

Good to know, thanks! They do have pretty things :)

Not sure on clarity- as long as its "eye-clean" and structurally ok I don't really care. And I definitely prefer the warmer colors over icy-white ones.

its a twinge over but how about

they are from the same place, so they might be able to set it, or even give you a tiny discount for buying both.... a handful of people have bought from them and have been quite happy

Ooh, that's lovely. And you can't beat the pricing on either.
