I found a ring that I really like. Obviously I''m looking to get engaged. This style looks unique and seems like one that the lady friend would really love. It has an enhanced center stone diamond...which I''ve read all about. I know they aren''t that popular here but any advice would be greatly appreciated. I''ve actually looked this seller and place up and this is an actual jewelry wholesaler. I wasn''t too keen on buying off of ebay but the feedback, and the research looks to be very positive. I am definitely looking for advice, as I''m not a diamond/jewelry guy at all. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Here is the ring:

Don't get rip-off. An 0.9c F VS2 non-clarity-enhanced is ard 4-6k, no way is the ring work 17k retail.

Drop the e-bay ring and slowly back away.

The feedback simply means the buyer got what they purchased, not that what they purchased was of high quality or that they know the difference.

A respected Pricescope vendor can surely help you find a much better ring and diamond (not CE) in your budget.

I definitely know it isn''t worth $17999...I''ve read multiple places that many sellers inflate the "appraised amount," especially online. I know a ring is pretty much only worth what someone is willing to pay for it and haven''t paid any attention to the $17999 appraised value.

I like the setting and although the diamond is enhanced, the stats look solid...at least from my research (very novice). I would be getting the ring professionally appraised within days of getting it to make sure everything is worth the value I paid. They have a 14 day return policy which makes it less stressful if something were to go wrong or something not being what was advertised.

No idea about the cut of the stone, cut being the parameter that determines if a stone is sparkling or not.

Clarity grade is useless since it is CE, probably from an I1/2. Color is graded F by an 3rd tier lab, not sure how reliable that is. So really not much information to go by.

So what questions would be pertanent to ask?

I asked if there''s a warranty on the CE diamond in case something ever happened. And is the UGL lab grade usually pretty sketchy?

I was initially looking for a diamond seperate from a setting but after searching everywhere, I keep getting drawn back to this one. It initially (and that''s why I''m trying to get any and all advice possible) looked exactly like what I wanted, for even lower than what I expected to spend...which means I take her on a nice vacation for a proposal

I think first thing is to check what is her opinion about CE. Some ladies would definitely have an issue with having a clarity enhanced engagement stone without knowing it before hand.

UGL, not sure, not that common, maybe the deal with CE more?

CE is quite iffy because the resin used to fill the holes in the diamond with the inclusions dugged out. Some will drain off, wash off, so certain cleaning procedures, ring repair work could not be done with the stone. Probably will have structure issue, depending on the location of the CE and how wide-spread.

Too much of a bother to me. But if you take good care of it, maybe.

Well I''m pretty confident she has no idea there''s such a thing as a clairty enhanced diamond...and from the way she looks at diamonds, I''m pretty sure she''d never know. I''d plan on replacing the diamond at some point with a non CE stone.

I''m torn on the whole thing. It''s too much money to make a bad decision.

I think it is best to get a non-enhanced stone and a simple setting rather than what you are considering.

Ladies are attached to the diamonds are foever thingy. If you give her a CE then switch it out, she will probably give you hell for it on both counts.

Some companies that CE diamonds guarantee the filling if fracture filled and will redo it for life if the filling should leak out due to ammonia based cleaners or jewellers not realizing the stone is enhanced. A CE diamond can be worked on certainly, you just need to let the jeweller know it is a CE diamond, that way they can avoid certain materials and techniques which can damage the enhancement, but the treatment can normally be redone fairly easily.

However the question arises, would your GF want one as an engagement ring...? I would suggest going with a non enhanced diamond but the choice is yours. How about going with a vendor who has a lifetime upgrade policy if you would switch the diamond out later anyway? That way you can get back what you paid against a larger diamond as finances permit?

Link for UGL labs, apparently they are considered less reliable than GIA/ AGS.

a clarity enhanced stone is so worthless that you are better off buying a cubic zirconia in my opinion. they have no real resale or inherent value. please either go with a colored stone or real quality diamond --

No resale or inherent value? Aren't they just as valuable as the stone was before the CE? It is still a real diamond...just minus the standard flaws that are visible to the naked eye. I'm definitely no diamond expert, but if you want something decent sized (in my case, close to 1K) that looks great to the naked eye, it seems the way to go. I keep getting back and forth opinions when reading around. Some say they're great for anyone looking for size and beauty but don't need perfection or close to it...others say that they're worthless.

Don''t do it! Why take the risk on offending your GF if she does care and why take the risk that the stone may not be as durable as a non-CE stone? At least do a search on this forum or google "clarity enhanced diamonds" and get some more information about the pros and cons of these stones. I myself would prefer a CZ any day over a CE diamond.

This might not be popular, but as a girl, unless I specifically asked for one, I don''t think I would be very happy to receive a clarity enhanced stone. I would rather have something small that was good quality. And that means a lot because I am a bit of a size wh*re.

Either way - trust me when I tell you that you are not getting a "deal" with the ebay ring. Even if what you want is a CE diamond of that size, that seller isn''t losing anything by selling at that price.

Please don''t buy a CE stone and try to hide it from your GF. That isn''t fair to her. That being said, I would avoid that ring completely. "D" stands for white and "VS" for very sparkly"

The vendor doesn''t even use the terms correctly. I think you will end up with a diamond that will disappoint you and your GF. There are many better options that have been mentioned on this thread.
