I know there''s a listing of appraisers listed here on PS, but I''m not sure how to pick based on what I need. Here''s the situation...

I''m stationed overseas, so I need to get a stone I''m planning to buy shipped straight to an appraiser who will look it over and give me his/her opinion and an IS or ASET image. If things look good he''d ship it to me, but if I don''t like it based on what he see''s he''d ship it back to Dover. Who do you recommend? Thanks
 
I think Dover is in Miami correct? I know several people have used Richard Sherwood in Sarasota. There are some other guys in
Miami but I have not heard of anyone using them. You could search for them and see if you get positive feedback.
 
I talked to Rick Sherwood and was going to use him until I remembered that having the ring shipped to him would cause me to have to pay sales tax. I''d really like to save that 6%. Anyone recommended outside of Florida?
 
Any recommendations from anyone? Any appraisers here that can do what I''m looking for ?

Hey. I want to buy some thing in Dover too. What is your concern about Dover or do you have any concerns about this company?
 
I can tell you that Dover`s diamonds grading 1-2 steps lower than GIA standarts. Keep it in mind.

How many do we have here? I know of Denver-appraiser.

Denver-appraiser, would you be interested. Any others here care to chime in? Or does anyone else have a recommendation?

There''s always Adamas (Marty Haske) as well.. Now located in Kentucky...

Neil, Marty, and Rocdoc were three of my favorite people in the industry. All great appraisers, all with a wealth of knowledge. Neil will do a great job for you.

@ Neil: I was just thinking about Bill a couple days ago. Every once in a while , when the phone rings with a Florida #, I still expect to hear his scratchy voice on the other end of the line...

We are not supposed to be self promoting. Truthfully, consumers are supposed to recommend, but as far as I understand the rules appraisers are not to promote or to volunteer their own services.

Many of the appraisers participating here are not stepping up because of this rule to offer their services. We are hope for recommendations per the rules.
