I need a little help understanding scope images

I've read a fair bit here and have started looking at actual diamonds. One I saw had excellent symmetry but most of the image in the scope was whitish grey. I thought a good cut shows mostly red and dark pink.

Am I mixing up H & A with ideal scope colors, or is the kind of diamond I saw just not that great? [edited to shorten it down]

I can only think of two issues:

- either the lighting in the shop made the scope images look funny

- or the scope was not pink itself

I would expect a light pink image through the scope if the light is too strong or the source too close. Gray instead of red... no idea

Thanks for your replies. I suspect I was using an H & A scope, not an Ideal Scope, exactly as noted above. I'll follow that up.
