So, I was at Bailey, Banks and Biddle today to pick up a bracelet I had repaired, so I wanted to try on some three-stone engagement rings with shared-porng eternity bands (this is a look I''''m thinking of doing for a reset). I''''m still not sure if I want to wear a shared-prong band with a solitaire, or a three-stone, so I asked the SA to try on both.

Once I had the Memoire shared-prong band on, I asked her for the three-stone to try on with it. She said, "Oh, no. You can''''t wear a three-stone with a shared-prong eternity band. The look is way too much and it will look tacky."

Now, I know that this is a lot of bling, but I am a PSer

I was just kind of surprised that the SA was steering me away from the more expensive option to what she called the more "tasteful" option of either pairing my solitaire with a shared-prong band, or a three-stone with a plain band. I was also kind of surprised that she actually called it tacky, but I know that us PSers can go a little overboard with the bling

Anyway, I wasn''''t offended or anything, I just wanted to share what I thought was kind of a funny story. I guess the thing is, not I may be a little more hesitant to pair those two blingy looks together. The idea of full-finger coverage is just so appealing though ...

LOL! De gustibus non disputandum. [I mean hers!]

I love full finger coverage in bling. And, I say that if it looks good to your eye, go for it! Forget about others'' opinions unless you value their tastes.

Something tells me this sales rep. isn''t working on commission...

oh no, I''m tacky. I have a three stone that I wear with a 5-stone HOF - full finger coverage.

She was the tacky one for criticizing your jewelry choice. Plain, small, and tacky are words that should not be used in a jewelry store!

That would have awoken my inner b*tch who would have said...

I asked you to show me the jewellery, not for your opinion. If you cannot do that please call for an assistant who can.

Well, color me tacky, too! A three stone and an eternity band is my favorite combination!

I don''t like such openly opinionated salespeople.

When I was trying wedding bands at Tiffany''s, I fell in love with my Jazz band right away. I put it on and said to my then-FI, "This is it!" The saleslady said "Really? I much prefer the Legacy band with your ring. It matches better." I explained that I was into non-matching sets, as though they were a mix-together of inherited pieces, and she just shook her said and said "Well, I guess it''s [/i]your choice,[/i] but if it were me, I would go with what looks best, and that''s the Legacy."

Excuse me?? Yes, it IS "my choice," it''s not "you," and what you think "looks best" is entirely subjective and has nothing to do with my preference.

I made sure we went to a different Tiffany store with a different salesperson to make the purchase. I didn''t want her to get my commission

Give her a break. This is what she learned in her 3-hour training class. You can''t be messing with her head like that!

If you had been there to actaually purchase then she would have just talked herself out of a potential sale! I LOVE 3 stone rings with shared prong bands! AmberGretchen owns that set and it looks fabulous!

Well. if you are tacky then I guess I am too!!

Wow! I guess I must be tacky too! My e-ring is a three-stone, and my wedding band is an eternity band (although it''s pave and not prong-set). Vesper, I can''t believe she said that to you . . . ugh.

There''s a set here on PS that is a three-stone e-ring with a shared-prong eternity band that is absolutely GORGEOUS! (I think it belongs to Roppongi.) My set wants to be just like hers when it grows up!

Thanks Feb2003 - that''s so sweet of you to remember

I guess I''m the ultimate tacky, but quite honestly I adore my set, and I get lots of compliments on it - I guess everyone just has really different opinions. I feel like diamonds are particularly personal, and also very much dependent on an individual''s hand/finger shape and size and personal style, such that something that would look tacky on some people looks great on others. I tried on a solitaire with my shared-prong band the other day and that looked really bad on me, but the three-stone suits my hand.

Oh well, funny story Vesper - thanks for sharing

Sorry you had to hear that... I luv the "TACKY" look and I''m so sick of SA who give their opinion when not asked! What I''ve come to realize is that all the SA that have made ugly little remarks in my opinion have been people that barely wear any jewelry, so I don''t get why they even work at a jewelry store. If they don''t luv jewelry well go work somewhere else!!!

What a weird thing for someone to say to you. Especially a salesperson! I happen to really like that look. It always catches my eye, and not because it looks tacky either, but because it looks pretty!

LOL! I love love lots of finger coverage, I love tacky.. the tackier the better!

I openly embrace tacky. Give me more diamonds!

You can''t? SAYS WHO????
She has no taste!
