I lost my rings!!

It has been over a week and I cannot find them. I have an engagement ring and diamond wedding band. I think I threw them away while I was cleaning one day. They are insured, but I am not sure if my policy will cover this since it was not a theft. I am not sure what to do. I am so upset. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on how I should deal with this. Thanks.

No idea, Snowflake ... sorry. I am interested to find out though as it sounds like something I might do myself. I''m sure someone will be able to assist as I know another PSer, I think it was in Nov, lost her rings b/c her mother-in-law threw them in the garbage disposal, by mistake.

I don''t remember if they were insured or not or what she ended up doing.

Snowflake I am so sorry. I lost my ring and I called my agent right away and then told him I wanted to look for awhile before I filed a claim. I had State Farm and I looked for about 3 or 4 mos (I was in denial that I would not find my ring). I later called my agent and then it took a week for them to verify the worth and then they cut me a check. I guess it depends on your insurance but call you agent for a heads up and I will cross my fingers you find it.

Look through everything! In and around the trash can, around the sink, tub, nightstand, lotion, and around the bed. Also, check coat pockets and gloves. (if your fingers were cold and they fell off)

FYI- our insurance covers LOSS and theft. Check into your policy.

Wow, I am sorry for your loss, hope you can find them, if not, hope your insurance will cover them. My sister "threw" her rings out a window of a moving car by accident, hers were NOT insured, she was just sick forever, it took her a long time to replace them, but even after all that, her''s still are not insured...insane

As a general guideline, if your rings are insured as part of your homeowner''s policy, there are limits on what will be paid, regardless of value, and they probably won''t be covered if you just lost them yourself. If they were insured under a rider (or personal articles policy), they are insured at their exact value, whether you lost them yourself or not.

Hope they are not lost at all, but only hiding.

Oh you poor thing... I HATE to lose things, and especially wonderful, beautiful, valuable things like my rings!

My insurance policy does cover any kind of loss or theft. If I threw my rings into the ocean, for example, (an example given to me by our agent!

) they are still covered. I think giving your agent a "head''s up" is a good idea.

My preventive measure is to have only ONE place that I ever take off my rings, and that is in my bathroom. They go in a box, so I never have to look for them. I think that is the key to never losing them. Never take them off except to put them in the same place every time. I might be on my 10th set by now if I didn''t stick to this!

Oh Goodness, I do hope you find them and that they are not truly lost!!!! My jewelry is covered under a separate rider and both loss and theft are covered.

That would be me!

We had a floater policy on the solitaire with our homeowners policy, so the solitaire was fully covered. We''re still settling it out, but we''re almost done with it. Even the adjuster has apologized for it taking so long. They''re usually settled more quickly according to him.

The wrap wasn''t covered. We didn''t have an additional policy on it, only the regular homeowners. So, it wasn''t covered for all losses, only theft/vandalism/etc. Luckily, the stones in that one (two .25 RBs, G color, VS something) are ok, just the band was mangled.

The one lesson that I must impart here is that your rings are safest on your finger. In the future, I will only have one location, where my rings are authorized to be other than my finger.

As for what I''ve done... not much yet. I''m holding a replacement diamond, that I think is better than the original. I''ll probably keep it, but I have no clue as how to have it set. I don''t have a wedding band now, other than my hideous, 14K yellow gold, 4mm wide, high domed LOTR-ish band that I actually got married with, which I''ve never cared for. Very short engagement, too excited to actually think about the ring. Heck, there''s another lesson. Don''t buy a ring, unless you actually want to wear it.

Believe it or not, sometimes even that's not enough to avoid them going missing. Having one place doesn't eliminate risk due to absentmindedness.

Just this past weekend, I cleaned my rings as usual. The ONLY time I take my rings off is to clean them, and it's always in the same place......upstairs bathroom where the ultrasonic cleaner is.

Took them out of the U/S, rinsed, and put them in my hand in a paper towel to dry them. I got sidetracked by stuff on the bathroom counter and began cleaning that off. Once straighted out, I finished putting other jewelry on and then noticed that my rings weren't on my hands. I was baffled for a moment, went into the next room to check the study (thinking perhaps I wandered without thinking), returned to the bathroom puzzled, and then thought to check the trash........yep, they were still in the paper towel I had been drying them with. I'd gotten distracted by something and absentmindedly thrown them in the TRASH.

That's NEVER happened to me in the four years I've had them, and I'm just ridiculously thankful that it occurred to me nearly IMMEDIATELY because I'd have NEVER thought to look in the trash.

Oh no, I can only imagine how upset you must be! I hope that you find them, but if not, I hope that your insurance company will be able to provide some help. I have mine on a homeowners insurance rider with State Farm, and they cover loss and theft...just an FYI. Good luck!

What I do when I lose something is go to a quiet place and really think out the very last places I saw my stuff and try and retrace

also check behind your couches and under them you might be surprised where they end up

You must be giong nuts trying to figure everything out.

I just wanted to mention a couple more places to look, try your purse, or your car, maybe they fell off in there? Maybe under the sink or wherever you keep cleaning stuff (if you were cleaning when it happened)., maybe drawers, check in and around the bed, my mom lost a diamond stud earring and she couldn''t find it for about a week then one day we happened to look down right beside her bed and there it was.

I feel your pain. My ring was taken from my house. I hoped that I had only lost it. I actually went so far as to call a psychic to help me find it. She confirmed what I knew in my heart- someone working in my home had stolen it. It took me about a month to grieve over my ring and to begin to look for a new one. I got a beautiful new ring, bigger than the last in a gorgeous setting, but I still mourn my lost ring. I thought I would have it forever and leave it to my daughter. I still hope that it will turn up one day. Hopefully your ring will turn up, and if it doesn''t you''ll be able to move on and find a beautiful new ring that you will cherish. Please keep us posted.
