It's great that a hostage will be released. I wonder what Hamas will get via Qatar for releasing the hostage. Qatar is a major funder of Hamas. Qatar just gave the president a flying palace custom airplane. If you search "why is the president going to the ME, you'll find it's to broker business deals and little if anything to do with geopolitics and he just got paid a nice plane in exchange for we no not what. The Saudis have their own agenda to give him things that please him so he doesn't ask questions they don't want to answer. Nothing is pure with this administration.

Biggest bribe in US history, right out in the open. It's so big it has wings.
His US AG is a lobbyist(foreign agent) for them so she says it's cool, they pay her, too! Huzzah!

This wasn't a gift. It was a payment.

Blah blah blah all the media and politics
Edan is home
58 hostages left to fight for
Let our people go
Yalla

I just remembered that the prez announced he's building a $5.5 billion golf resort in Qatar...and 2 wks later they want to give him a plane....it smells fishy even in the middle of a desert :mrgreen2:

So if it is a gift to the Dept. of Defense, it is the property of the US government and should not go into his presidential library.

From what I read, temporarily, then it is required to go to the library.

I read that too. My point was that it can't be both a gift to the DoD and a gift to the president. The seem to want it both ways. In my opinion, it is all just a way of having tax payers pay (not purchase) for what will become his personal airplane. Not to mention avoiding any kind of gift/income tax.

I fully realize that once you start a thread, you have to let it go. You don’t have control over how people will react to your original post, or the direction the discussion will take. That said, this thread was intended as place to post random observations or lighthearted asides - it was never intended as a place to hold conversations that skirt PS’s “no political discussions” rule.

I understand the desire - and even the need, these days - to discuss what’s happening in US and world politics. And as I said earlier, I’m aware that having started this thread does not give me any special rights over what is posted in it. So I will just respectfully request that those who want to discuss politics have the courage to do so openly, elsewhere.

And yes, I will be “reporting” my own post. And if the administrators decide that the only way to curb the misuse of what was intended as a fun thread is to close it, I will fully support their decision.

This post is harsh and inaccurate. You didn't specify parameters or rules in your first post similar to what I did in the grumpy/whiny thread. Had you done so, I suspect (and hope) that posters would have respected your request and you would have legitimate grounds on which to complain if they didn't.

There always been off-topic gut wrenching, sad, upsetting or highly personal posts containing sensitive info that I think is inappropriate for PS that I choose not to read or not to comment on because the info is triggering for me. Choosing to ignore posts that upset people is the same old suggestion I give every time someone is displeased that everything here isn't unicorns and rainbows.

Annnnnd, it got worse today. Way worse. 600billion worse, from another country.
If you haven't, go read about it.

Folks, this isn't a place for political discussions. Stop it, please. Make a thread that abides by the policies.

I wish Hersh and his family also had a reunion. What Hersh and his family went thru was utterly heartbreaking.

I ordered a "raised garden bed" made of galvanized steel (painted a lovely soft, sage-ish green). It's 8 x 2' and 17" tall. It's out for delivery! I can hardly stand the wait! :D

Did it come preloaded with plants and herbs? Costco has one but comes in a plastic deck rectangular container. Best thing I ever did was build a raised bed beside my large deck. Lots of work but oh so lovely. In our AB climate, I was surprised what survived in a raised bed. Both annuals and perennials.

Show us pics when you get it and let us know you plans for it!!

Please post pictures when you get it set up @SparklieBug. What do you plan on planting in the raised bed? How exciting!

I spent most of the day at different garden centers today trying to decide what plants I want to plant in pots this year.

I have been window shopping. I could buy now but our weather is just not for replanting as our May long weekend is historically notorious for snow. We'll see this year...now it is "just rain". Ya sure. Chilly for sure. Anyway, if I don't get the TOP plants I'll get very good ones. You know what they say about excellent grades! :saint:

What do you fancy?

@canuk-gal, I have always planted pink geraniums with different kinds of ivy planted around the geraniums in potted plants. I haven’t planted anything in pots the past two years. I like potted plants on the patio. I have roses planted in the yard.

Today I went to a few garden centers to try to find plants I saw planted together last summer in pots. I could not find two of the plants and it doesn’t help I don’t know what they are called. My guess is this combination also needs to be in shade, which won’t work for our patio. Since this bright idea of mine probably won’t work, I will probably make the potted plants the same way I’ve done for 20 years, I’m boring as hell Sharon.

Haha! That would be great if it came pre-potted with the precise plants I'd like in it...This one will be just veggies. I think.

Good to know that you've had good success with plants surviving an AB winter in a raised bed! Last year, I planted some mint (in its own pot, to prevent spreading) in my weensy veggie garden. It overwintered, and was just sending out some baby leaves when we had a frost...no more mint. I thought it would survive, as mint is notoriously tough. Nope.

I think this one will be veggies. I purchased tomatoes (didn't have the inclination to grow by seed this year), cukes, a zucchini, and will plant beans by direct seeding. Also have some arugula, and lots of strawberries already developing little berries. I hope the deer leave the berries alone. Stinkin' deer.

Hubby and I were out and about yesterday, and ended up having lunch at a place that’s well-known locally for its grilled meats. We ordered a 1/2 grilled chicken to share. It came with Cole slaw and fries, and they graciously split the whole shebang onto two plates for us.

The utensils provided were a spoon, a steak knife, napkins, and a wet wipe.

I’ve encountered restaurants that don’t provide forks before - that unfortunately seems to be “a thing” now, and has prompted more than a few (private) rants on my part. But not providing a fork to eat a chicken breast that’s half the size of a dinner plate? C’mon!

At least they didn’t confiscate the wet wipe when they brought the fork I requested!

So did they expect you to hold it with your hands while cutting it with the steak knife, and then eat it with your hands and use the wet wipe to clean up? I've never heard of restaurants not providing forks. You say it's a "thing" now, but again, I've never heard of that.

What? Why wouldn't they give you a fork?
How were you supposed to eat the coleslaw?

Good question. I didn't even think about that. I was focusing on the chicken....

I just saw somebody wearing what i thought was an oyster perpetual 34 Rolex watch with a candy pink dial and I am certain that tonight I will see it again in my dreams....

What do you want to plant in your yard?

Well, CC, I've decided on a plant departure. We left a big yard/house and downsized to a big apartment. So no yard, but a deck. For the last several years, I've had the same pot scheme, but this year I've seen rectangular "deck" boxes that had such a lovely assortment of flowers that I am going to buy them. I might try some pot roses (I used to grow such beautiful roses in my old garden/yard) and I miss them terribly. And Cala lillies. I miss my big Asiatic littles that loved my hot protected yard corner. Going the nostalgic route this year. If I fail, then plan C next year?

@SparklieBug, Your new garden is going to be delicious. Is there anything you can use to keep the deer away from the garden? Can you plant marigolds around the vegetables? I read somewhere that deer are supposed to hate marigolds and avoid places where they are.

@canuk-gal, A big apartment with a deck sounds wonderful! The deck boxes planted with roses sounds really pretty. I love roses too. What color roses are you going to plant?

I bought the geraniums and ivy for the pots today. I was all happy and looking forward to the planting until I was driving home. Then it dawned on me this is probably going to kill my back.

I have a few herbs planted in my small garden plot and after struggling a few years and various setbacks. they’ve finally reached the stage where we can use them with wild abandon. This evening my husband - who does most of the cooking - asked me to fetch him some savory, thyme, and rosemary for the lentil stew he was cooking.

As I handed them to him I whispered, “I love it when you talk herby to me.”

Caught him totally by surprise - LOL!

I'm impatiently waiting for the the planter boxes to be finished for the new greenhouse and to make it to the top of the project list of the painters I hired who will paint it the same color as the house and seal the cedar inside with teak oil. She's a cutie patootie greenhouse that could easily convert to a she-shed if I get tired of gardening.

That's QUITE the place! Perfect in your lovely yard. You must show it once it's done and filled!
