Thank you for your replies, VRBeauty; canuk-gal; Calliecake; junebug; and mary poppins. My daughter is clearly on the mend. She has been moved from clear liquids to soft foods, although she is not really able to eat much yet. (I watched a tray of soft foods come and go at lunch time.) They expect to have her walking by tomorrow because they want to discharge her then!

Thank you for your support. I never thought I'd want her home!

Sending healing dust. I hope they give her proper treatment soon, and that she gets on the road to recovery. I also worry that this is hard on you. Rest when you can! Take care Deb.

Deb, I'm so glad your daughter has pulled through this. My DH had emergent colon surgery during our first year married and the recovery post op was no picnic. We were lucky he wasn't bagged afterwards. Diligent bowel maintenance has been top priority ever since.

You mentioned that your dog is spending his life in a cage. Might you consider re-homing him so this is not the case? I've 'known ' you here for years and to maintain a dog like this is not like you. Yes, it's none of my business but OTH you are thinking about this dog and what this is like for him.

I'm sorry to have misled you, azstonie! You must have been horrified to read that! I was not writing clearly because I had to get going to the hospital. In fact I went there without some of the things I never forget to put into my purse before I leave home. I think that the continual coming and going really has me confused.

I have been crating Hero since Whitney was admitted to the hospital Wednesday night when I visit her there. I never leave him alone here for more than four hours tops in his crate, and during the week the dogwalker comes during one of those times. (I do not count that as a break in a four hour stretch. Only my coming home to him is a break.) So he is in the crate for no more than eight hours a day or perhaps ten if I make two longer trips and one short trip to the hospital on a given day. But we are talking only Thursday, Friday, and today (Saturday). I am a stay at home owner and he isn't crated when I am home!

He came to me in July liking his crate. (My Newfie, Griffin, did not like it, so I didn't use it. This actually Griffin's XL crate that he is.) He often goes into the crate on his own. In fact, after I let him out of it when I came home from the hospital, Hero went outside; had a bowl of chicken and noodle soup; sat next to me on the couch; then went into his crate. I think that spending more time in lately has made him more fond of it. When I leave him I put a dish of water in; his peanut butter flavored nylabone; a Kong filled with peanut butter; and one Paul Newman chicken and rice chew. I never have to put him into the crate. I tell him to go in and he goes willingly. (When I leave the house he does protest, though.) He is happy and calm in the crate when I return.

So what I meant was that Hero's usual day (when I am home with him) is spent on the deacon's bench looking out my window and guarding us against people walking on the sidewalk; squirrels; chipmunks; and so forth. But I am there to say, "No more barking. Go lie down and have a bone." If I were to be away at the hospital he might be doomed to bark at chipmunks for four hours straight which would wear him out. Thus the crate and calm. But I don't plan to be at the hospital forever. :))

Thank you for caring about my puppy.

Whitney is coming home today. I am off to the hospital to go get her. No more crating for Hero once I get her home! Not that he will mind going into the crate while I pick her up. He had a huge baked yam with Reddi Wip for breakfast. I know I have mentioned the Reddi Wip in his thread, but not here. Remind me to tell you that story when I am not on the fly!

Hell just froze over. My husband told me "You were right." I am still in shock.

Backstory- We remodeled our 1st floor bathroom and had a professional install the tile on the floor and walls. Where the tile ends we needed to add a fresh coat of paint to the walls. I offered to paint them.

I got home from work the other night and DH had added grout to the walls where the tile ended. His rationale was that he could not get a clean "line" of paint from the tile to the wall. IMHO the added (uneven, thick and sloppy) grout made a professional tile installation look like a bad DIY job. I told DH this. Lots of banging around, cussing, the sounds of a power tool, sanding and dust entailed.

After that I avoided DH for a bit and washed down the bathroom to get rid of the grout dust. He acted like nothing happened, whistling, and being pleasant. I still thought maybe he was miffed for me being a "perfectionist."

This morning I thanked him for removing the grout. He told me "You were right."

I hear stories like yours @LisaRN and am kind of grateful my husband isn’t handy and thankfully knows his limitations. He told me early on that some things are just better left to having done by a professional. I’ve learned from listening to my friends stories that he is definitely correct.

I always get called a perfectionist when my husband is worried he's done shoddy work, lol. It's a pre-emptive strike IMO.

So, I'm *really* thinking about buying a bike to commute to work. Like I went to a bike shop and talked with the super nice person who was working there. No pressure, but LOTS of info. Here are my hangups:
1. I have to ferry children home from school. I say children, but I should say teens (Junior & Sophomore in HS). Now, they can take the bus (cost of about $50/month total) if I rode 3 days a week.
2. This is HUGE: What if I buy this bike (Rover 3 disc, by Giant, it's a hybrid, but I like it) for $450 after taxes (yes, totally cheap by PS diamond standards :roll) and I don't actually use it? Or I jump into this adventure and just quit??? I'm looking at spending (hopefully) under $600 to get started (bike, HELMET, fix it kit, maybe a jacket/pants/undies?).

I need to do something for my health, and I loathe running (even though that's what got me the best results YEARS ago)....

My friend does mountain biking/racing and that looks like such fun! I'd kind of like to do that, but from what I spoke with the guy at the shop (again NO PRESSURE) he suggested that I'd probably end up getting another bike. The hybrid one I looked at would work for the roads and some light mountain biking, so it *could* be a gateway...sigh...

I know that I need to do something, I'm just scared of wasting the $$$$ Just want to put this out here....

I am using the computer because I do not want to go back to the hospital. But I have to go. My daughter has been there since Wednesday night. It is Saturday morning. She had acute abdominal pain. A cat scan made them diagnose her with colitis brought on by acute constipation. She had a fever and a very elevated white blood cell count. I am all alone. No one else to visit her. It was bad. They called in an infectious disease specialist a gastroenterologist and a surgeon as well as the doctor caring for her. If her colon was about to burst, the surgeon was supposed to operate. I just wanted to get that off my chest. Off to the hospital again. The poor dog is crated most of the time. Otherwise he stands on our deacon's bench and barks at chipmunks all day, and that is not good for him. ;))

Oh Deb I’m so sorry and hope she’s home now and doing better. Sending you warm hugs and good wishes and strength. ((((Hugs)))).

You have my vote for getting a bike. It’s great exercise and it’s fun too. And low impact which is something running is not. Do it!!!

@Cozystitches , have you thought about looking for a similar bike model on the used market? People are always letting things go inexpensively. You can see if you really like it, or who knows, you may even be able to score a "better" bike for less or the same money. My husband is a cyclist and we have I think 6 bikes hanging in the garage! I can't ride any longer, but it was fun while it lasted. I used to go out every day. I have a sweet spot for Specialized brand. My husband has 4 different brands.

Me being old. My husband is on some elimination type/keto type diet prescribed by his respirologist. He is avoiding all carbs. He bought these bars one day, then said he couldn't eat them because 4 carbs was too much.:eek2: I tried one and really liked it. It seemed like a type of chocolate on the outside and dry filling weird stuff inside, but it kept me sated for a long time. So he was going to the grocery and I asked him to buy me some more "Good Eats" bars. ???? Wth is that he said. I explained. He said, oh you mean Good FATS! Argh. :lol-2: I have glasses, but the printing is not small!

I thank everyone for the good wishes for Whitney (my daughter). She came home with five prescriptions that had to be filled and three doctors' appointments that had to be made. We are going to one today and to the other two later in the week. Her white cell count is still high. She has also been taken off one of her psychiatric medications because they found out in the hospital that it affects her heartbeat/EKG! So I will have to make another appointment with her psychiatrist to see what he can substitute for what she was taken off! Nonetheless, home is better.

Again, I thank everyone.

Thank you for the update @AGBF, I have been thinking about you and your dd. I'm glad having her home is easier for you; I know that the trips back and forth to the hospital are grueling. Sending your dd lots of healing vibes, I hope she recovers completely soon. Good luck with the upcoming appointments and please take care of yourself too, try to rest whenever you can.

@Cozystitches, sounds like fun and great exercise. Maybe buy a used bike to start?

Thank you both! I had thought of going a used route, my issue is I'm wanting quality and I'm cautious of buying used because of how many bikes get stolen. :( Also, I am not as knowledgeable about bikes, and with a store bought, I know that it's not junk (or parts been swapped), or something else has happened to the bike that hasn't been disclosed.

You have my vote for getting a bike. It’s great exercise and it’s fun too. And low impact which is something running is not. Do it!!!

:D I did mention to hubby the cost and he didn't laugh or choke, so that was a good sign ;-)

I'm also seriously considering it because hubby just bought an expensive watch (ok, NOT expensive as some of his others, but $800 is a large amount). For those who know watches: Its a Zeppelin, looks really cool.

My friend is no help, she's a huge enabler! ;-) I am still seriously considering....

I'm starting to feel like a crazy person.

GAP has these pants that I am In Love With. I bought one pair on line thinking I'd try them out and if I liked them I'd get some more. The crop version came and I then decided I should get the tall crop because they are three inches longer and they would be awesome ankle length pants on me for fall because crop season is fast coming to a close here in the Midwest. And then I decided I should get one size down (in both tall and regular) because I'm being pretty good about the gym and... well... hope springs eternal... But they keep selling out. And restocking. And re-selling out. And re-restocking. And... And... And... !!! Strangely enough I see different things available when I look on my computer vs. when I look on my phone so I'm ordering every S/XSM in regular and tall I can get to pop up. And I keep getting charges on my credit card but no confirmation emails from GAP that the orders are really received/being processed. I'm at the point that I don't even know what I've ordered. Some day the Fed Ex truck is going to just back up to my house and a zillion pair of these pants in every size and length will come exploding out and bury me under a mound of blue packages. And I'm still refreshing every few minutes because you just never know when they're going to pop up again. The last time was at 2 am. Yes really! I got up to pee and bought some pants! There is something wronnnnnng with me!!!

Take heart dear girl. At least you didn't buy multiple pairs of expensive diamonds. Though hmmm come to think of it multiple diamonds sound pretty good to me right now...more to share with your friends.8):halo::appl:

.
And you can return anything you don't want to keep from the GAP. No worries.:appl:

Deb, I don't dare post these fab pants until I've amassed at least another dozen pair as I can't take any more competition at this time!

Missy, oh honey... I've already gone bananas on the multiple diamond front too. At least the pants are cheaper!

When I pulled into my driveway this morning there were two packages waiting for me. And I scored another pair of crop version between getting out of the shower and drying my hair. Now if they'd just post more tall! I'm on a MISSION!

They have a good line of active wear. Called Gapfit. They fit me like a dream and are so comfy. I hang around in them and even run errands in them occasionally. They look nice and neat and are so comfortable but I already mentioned that. I value comfort so it I get excited when I find something that looks good and feels good too. I just searched for you but not sure they are the exact same pants I love. They seemed to have changed a bit but here you go. And it's 40% off now.

https://www.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=1005439&mlink=1007604,,flyout_fit_Capris_Leggings

My favorite are the Gap Fit flare leg. They run big so order down.

I am a little sad because a ring I ordered 2 day priority registered mail seems to have gone missing in the USPS system. I hope it just wasn't scanned and it still arrives as originally scheduled. And that it wasn't lost or stolen. Fingers crossed.
