PSers,

I am not getting anywhere with selecting a diamond. The setting has been chosen, but I cant seem to make up my mind about the diamond. I orginally wanted a round diamond, but am not finding one I like within my price range. I thought I go to a princess cut, but from what I can tell on this board it may look smaller than the round. I looked into a cushion cut and again it sounds like it may look smaller than the round. I am just lost at this time and feeling frustrated. I want 1ct or larger and the price range is $5200. Please help, may deadline is approaching (Dec 15th). This is the setting: http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/beverley-k-jewelry/rings/77PP1/

Thank you in advance,

Belkis

You budget allows you to get a 1ct J/SI1 from James Allen. Please go to their website and take a look.

Thank you for replying. Yes, my budget does not allow for much unless I change the setting and I really want a unique setting. What do you think about cushion cut for the setting??

That setting looks pretty. I think an antique cushion will look nice. Do they make the setting for cushions?

Contact Jewels by Erica Grace - tell them what you're looking for and show them the setting. They can definitely find something in your budget. They are great to work with too - very nice ladies.

Rounds, princesses and cushions have totally different looks. Don't get locked into a specific cut shape just for size. You must love the look and light performance of that shape no matter the setting or you will not love the ring. If you want something sizeable in a round, I agree than JA's J SI1 is a good option. With luck and persistance, there are cleanish SI2s to be found. If you are not colour sensitive, you may even consider dropping colour as low as K and L.

HI:

Are you saying the source who sold you the setting cannot find a stone with in your budget? Cuz I ws thinking if you bought from Pearlmans they could look...

If not, your deadline is tenuous if you are trying to coordinate from two places...can you have the setting and a placeholder synthetic stone until you find just the right one?

cheers--Sharon

Did you already buy the setting? Otherwise would you consider an actual antique? then you owuldnt have to waist the time of setting it, which will eat up a lot of your time before your deadline, this ebay store has a million rings i love, and very unique i dont know how much that setting is so i dont knowwhat your full budget is but

I love Leigh Jay Nacht and Enerchi recently visited them and said their quality is fantastic...much better in person!

Wait a sec. So has this setting been ordered? If not, how long are they saying it will take once the diamond is there? I think you need to get a stone from Pearlman's, too, if that is where you are getting the setting. I am surprised BK can be ordered in less than 2 weeks.

One note about that setting. Is this what she picked out? Because it is a great standalone ring but it is not going to work well with a wedding band. And a princess is not appropriate for that setting at all. Nothing will look larger than a round.

A L or M color diamond would look great in there, if you/she likes cape or very pale yellow (candlelight ivory type) diamonds. But you still might not get an ideal cut in the 1ct range to fit into your budget.

When i got engaged, my e-ring diamond was set in a simple 6-prong Tiffany. He paid for that. I wore it a while like that, and then I paid to change to setting to something more unique after I'd decided what I wanted. I thought that was fair. He bought the diamond, I bought the setting. Everyone was happy. And I got a larger diamond that way, because I didn't insist on him buying an expensive setting. He could max his budget on the diamond.

I tried on this setting. What's funny is I found it 13 years ago on faycullen and then found that bev k either made it or copied it.
Point is, there was a round stone in the one i tried on and it is all u need (a 1 carat) because there is a lot going on and the 4 corners are thick and conceal part of the diamond anyway. It depends on what faceting pattern u want - probably the round would look best in this setting or an OEC with chunkier facets. Or like the last post said, get the best diamond u can afford - put all the money in the whitest, sparkliest stone for the money, then let ur fiancee pick out her favorite setting. Settings can always be changed, but diamonds are not as easy to change etc.

Thank you for the information. I am glad to hear from someone that is actually tried this ring on. When you say all u need is a 1 carat (i actually bought a triple excellent cut 1.02 round SI1 with this setting from Julian at Pearlmans) do you mean that it looks big with the setting? or does it look small (you stated that the four corners conceal part of the diamond)? Btw, I also saw the ring at Fay Cullen, but it was priced about $900 dollars more than the price I got from Julian. According to Julian, my ring arrives on Jan 25th and I should receive it within that week (the anticipation is killing me).

I'm so happy that you found something, and can't wait until you post photos! Congratulations!!!
