I just bought my wedding dress on eBay!

I''m in shock! I went on eBay today to search for dresses as I do every now & then. I came upon an auction for a Maggie Sottero Tayla dress which was ending in 20 minutes. I debated for a few minutes, then placed a bid, which didn''t meet the reserve. Then I got a touch of eBay fever...I had to have this dress so I started guessing at the reserve...and won the auction with 44 seconds to spare!

An Original Designer Maggie Sottero Wedding Dress NWOT

Tayla- One piece strapless chiffon A-line gown with corset back. The bodice and corset back are ornamented with ruched chiffon diagonally placed revealing encrusted crystals. The double chiffon skirt is softly draped at the side hip creating voluminous folds at the hem.Color is White Diamond White. This dress is an original Designer Maggie Sottero size 12 that has been altered to a size 6. The alterations did not involve any cutting and can be let out. The corset back allows a good fit for various sizes.This dress in brand new without tags and has never been worn.This dress is absolutely beautiful. Feel free to email me with questions.

And, just as a refresher, here''s a pic of me trying on a Tayla in a bridal salon. This dress was a size 12--notice the manual cinching in the back. I hope my new gown (

I''m nervous because I''ve only made one purchase on eBay before & it was for something pretty unimportant. I hope everything is ok with this.... Oh, I won the auction for $300 & the MSRP for this dress new is $658.

What a great dress! It looks so great on you. I pretty much so trust e-bay...dont get me wrong there are fakes on there, but even most the fakes have return policies. It looks like a great dress and you got a GREAT price... cant wait to see pics of your dress on you!

Thanks, ladies. I hope it''s ok. There are no returns or exchanges. From the text of the ad, it sounds to me like this is a girl who bought the dress, had it altered, then cancelled her wedding. (so this isn''t an eBay bridal shop) So it should have lots of good karma....lol!

You know you like the dress and look good in it, they claim it''s never been worn, it''s already altered but can be adjusted if need be...and you got it for only $300. Even if it was a fake (though likely not) it''s such a super deal...it''s definitely worth it! My no-name dress cost $350!

This dress was the one I really fell in love with, the dress I saw myself in when I closed my eyes & pictured our wedding, but I was trying to convince myself I shouldn''t spend that much money on a dress. (I know it''s not that much retail, but we''re paying for the wedding ourselves so I''m trying to cut costs where I can.) Now I was able to buy my dream dress for the same cost as some of the BM dresses I was looking at! Yay!

I just received the email below from the seller. This girl''s measurements are nearly identical to mine! I just hope she''s not 5''2" & had the dress hemmed to fit. (I''m 5''10"!) I feel much better now. And I know this is silly, but I''m kind of glad this gown came to me from a 2-dress bride, as opposed to from a cancelled wedding.

Hi. I just wanted you to know I received your email questions. I actually
auctioned this dress off for a friend(my husband''s secretary of 25 years).
It was purchased for her 25 year old daughter who actually bought 2 dresses
and never wore this one(an only daughter). I was previously asked by another
interested party if there was a certificate of authenticity and she said she
did not have one. But I have been knowing her for a long time and I trust
her when she tells me it is an original or I would not have listed it this
way. I know that gives you little comfort being a complete stranger but just
thought I''d mention that.Others asked for her daughter''s measurements and
she said they were 35/21/34, and that her formal dress size was usually a
size 6 as for your question regarding the hem I''ll call and ask her and let
you know. I''ll let you know as soon as I know hopefully tonight. I have to
take my two young daughters to dance class and then it''s homework,study and
dinner so it will either be late or tomorrow before I can get back on the
internet. Once payment is received I''ll forward her your shipping address so

So, I just submitted a payment for the dress--I hope it comes in & all is ok. I''m a little nervous that the dress will be long enough.

It was hemmed for the girl who bought it--she''s 5''6" & was planning to wear 4" platform heels (!) so technically it should fit me (I''m 5''10") in bare feet--just fine for a beach wedding. I hope it''s not too short, though.

Also, I wonder if the beading/chiffon on the bodice looks different in the pictures of this dress than in the pictures of me trying on the dress in a salon. Does anyone see what I mean? I hope this gown is indeed authentic as the auction claims. Hmph. I''m a new eBay buyer & the process still scares me a bit.

Yeah, sellers can get in trouble with Ebay for making untrue claims about their merchandise...you''ve got backup if the deal goes sour. But hopefully your faith in the seller''s honesty is not unfounded!
