I just bought an e-ring for my girl. It was an "I" stone and and the setting was 18k white gold. I think it looks perfect. No problems here with it.

I think in show me the ring there is a topic about J colored stones. Mara and Matadora both have J colored stones that look fabulous in their platinum settings (I think they have platinum). The J you''ve chosen looks awesome!!! Good luck...let us know how it turns out.
 
More like the opposite, I think. The diamond reflects its setting so it will look more yellow in yellow gold, less yellow in white gold or platinum. Your gf will be happy with the platinum.

I don''t see the warmth...but not all colors are created equal so probably best to check with the vendor. But normally the ideal cut rounds face up really white and rounds in general mask color and inclusions when they are ideal. Good luck!

The general consensus seems to be J''s and platinum are a great look together, no problems that I can recall with any of them. Best of luck to you!
 
I have two I colord diamonds. One in whote gold, one on yellow. The one in the yellow shows color as a result of the yellow setting I think. I too would go platimum.

As long as the diamond is well cut it will look great!! I have spent so much time here drooling over the gorgeous Is and Js in platinum here!!

i''ve seen two H''s in a plat setting and they''re gorgeous. i''ve now got a J that''s gonna go into plat.....and, it''s gonna be stunning. check out a few of the ''threads'' here about h/j diamonds in settings.....g''luck...
 
I have a J, SI1 set in platinum and I love it...can''t see any warmth myself. If DH hadn''t given me the GIA cert. I would never have known what color the stone was, honestly. (I didn''t have input on the stone or the setting!)
 
i''m a newbie buyer.

but I too say it depends on cut/stone.

just bought an ags ideal J.

and had it next to another Ideal I, an H, and and E.

I could see the color between the E and J. but the other 3 stones were very white, and my eyes couldn''t tell the difference.

But also saw a good/good GIA J stone and it looked more yellow then others. One thing i learned is you have to see for yourself and next to other stones.
 
In my experience accurately graded I color is usually no problem in white metal. J is where it starts to get borderline. As others have said, the shape and cutting have alot to do with the visual impact of body color. Most fancy shapes tend to concentrate color in certain areas of the stone. Well cut rounds reflect so much ambient light back to the eye that a little body color is almost completely disguised.

Another issue is the type of setting used. If the setting is of a style that allows clear views from the side of the stone, a little color will be more noticeable. A bezel setting or low prong setting is not so revealing.

having had a J in plat for the last year alongside melee of F and G color, i have to say it''s not been an issue at all with color. sometimes i get a glimpse of a little warmth in the stone from the side but from top down you don''t see a thing. my next stone is a J too and i can''t wait to see it in my setting.
 
My experience with K and platinum was that it was beautiful. Really beautiful. Feels nice and weighty, too, kind of comforting.
 
OK some people may not like my response but its just my honest opinion. I am color sensitive. When at the stores, I can easily pick out the I/J colored diamonds and have confirmed it with the sales rep. Pictures may or may not be all that telling and can easily (and innocently) not give you a true idea of the color of the stone. While I believe that there are many well cut stones that face up whiter than others, I think it is important to see the stone in person before you purchase it. Can you have it sent to an appraiser near you and have a plat. or WG setting available for you to look at the diamond next to? This is what I would reccomend. Good luck!
