So there are a number of PSers who help out in RT on a regular basis. Most of us are women, and relatively fewer are men. But I have noticed that if 4 people offer help to a poster, and one is (seemingly) a man and the rest are (seemingly) women, based on the AV pics or maybe their names, the OPs will often say "Thanks Stone Cold [or whichever male poster answered the OP], what do you think of x..." and will ignore all the women posters.

Anyone else notice this? I have seen it happen rather blatantly on numerous occasions.

Yes I see that a lot... And it''s not cool!!!

YES! What the heck!

So it isn''t just me!

I think I will change my Av to a pitbull or something when I am in RT. And I guess I could change my name to "Spike" or "Buzz" or something

YUP. They listen to the guys... Cracks me up because we know so much and know what a girl wants.... I need to grow some balls....

LOL Buzz! I have seen such an occurrence a few times.

I don't hang out in RT that often these days, but if I were you I'd start calling them out on it. Oh and not help them. Let them all get their girlfriends chunky modern architectural tension settings no matter what the girlfriends might want!

(NOTE: I love chunky modern settings but it seems like every single man does, too, because they're "masculine.")

LOL!! This is so true -- I can't count how many times female posters have tried to steer a guy away from a very chunky setting. Sometimes they listen; often they don't. I swear, they act like they're buying a truck, not a fine piece of jewelry.

And, yes, Dreamer -- er, "Buzz" -- I have noticed the "gender bias" in Rocky Talky.

I am not even talking only about setting advice and what have you. I mean, advice about cut quality and such. I suppose that techy stuff is something only men understand
20.gif

I don''t call them on it because it would be a much less pleasant place in RT. Usually I just pretend they didn''t ignore me and only ask them man for more info, and I jumo in and answer them
2.gif

Interesting observation.

Just call me "Bob" from now on. Can I change my name to SwingBob?

Yeah your ovaries get in the way of all that tech stuff.

And I''m not good at letting things go...now you''re making me want to go over to RT and start fights with all the misogynists! See what you did?!

Ha, yeah, settings are just like trucks-the chunkier the better!

Yes, I notice this, too, on those types of threads. And it''s not just the ignoring that gets me; sometimes I sense a covert (and often overt) patronizing tone when a woman makes a comment.

IMO, there''s been a jockeying for power since a certain prosumer joined the trade. It''s like being in a herd of elk or something, and watching as the young bucks lock horns to see who will take the leader''s place. A bad analogy maybe, but that''s what I see.

GAH, It just happened again. A guy in RT is going after a stone at BN... I gave my advice. Pointing out some key things..

Stone cold was thanked.

Nothing against him Stone cold does a great job.

BUT dreamer you are the cream of the crop lady..... YOU need a round of applause.... So here ya go!!!
2.gif

Good idea -- and I''ll be Stan333 -- my male alter ego.

Wow, I just checked that thread -- blatant!!
29.gif

Stone does do a good job and he doesn''t ignore the female posters, either. But I have seen you, Swingirl and Dreamer (and a few other regular women posters in RT) make excellent recommendations and not get credit from the OP.

It happens too often to be random.

That was the thread that prompted me to start this thread! LOL!

One thing I remind myself often is that most of the young men looking for engagement rings are indeed very young. I suppose they cannot be blamed for succumbing to societies norms
4.gif

And Thank you Kaleigh! I enjoy helping there. But I will say it makes me feel really good when a poster thanks me or remembers that I helped them.

hahah... this struck my funny bone. And it is true. ETA All the men are robots, devil faceless red guys, knights in armor, or ogres. Or watches

ETAA Or they are IS images or ASETs of their dimaonds!

That has been going on forever.
Its just that a certain someone
9.gif
kept it in check for a while with his awesomeness
9.gif

Honestly the vast majority is just people helping where and when they can.

I have noticed that some people get thanked more than others and guys sometimes do get an unfair amount.

Maybe they are just so glad to know that other men do hang out here that they fail to recognize the knowledgeable cyber hotties.
31.gif

I wonder how much of it is just that some people put things in language that some others tune in to? That could still account for something of a gender bias effect.

There are some posters whose technical advice I read and understand clearly. Other say much the same thing and I don''t get it at all. Some people just have the knack of making technical info ''real'' to me - some are male and some are female, but I read their posts and skip over the confusing ones if I''m trying to understand something.

All that said, if someone has gone out of their way to help, a thank you wouldn''t hurt regardless!

For me, I don't find its a problem as most are fairly polite and say thank you, but I have also noticed this tendency....
40.gif

A thank you does not take any time to give so I do hope to see more thank you's being given to all those participating in threads.

You ALL do a great job here and have so much to offer, I would like to thank you for the effort you put in, trust me it IS noticed and appreciated!!!!!!!!

And thats great with others striving to attain high levels of knowledge but I think we will only ever have one Storm.....
