Hi all! I have a simple question, and it's probably a silly one. I have a plain solitaire 4 prong setting that held a 1.06 round originally. I was wondering if possibly a 1.30 could fit in it. It looks like with a "pushing out" of each prong a bit, that it would fit. But, not sure of the danger of breaking a prong, etc. It is pretty high set, so do you think maybe the larger diamond could be set down a little further? I'll try to post a couple photos for reference.

Here are a couple of pics 20230224_195616.jpg

Whats the metal?

No, get a new setting in my opinion.
Not worth the chance of a compromised prong and lost diamond.
Soldering new prongs is possible but likely not cost effective.

@Karl_K Thank you so much for your expert advice. I do actually have a new setting the correct size, but fir some reason it looks too bulky to me. I like thev6 prongs, but do they look a bit thick to you? I'll post a pic..

@ Karl_K, here is the new one. Heavier and chunkier than expected. 20230224_202224.jpg

Could the prongs possibly be clipped just a tad and set just a little lower?

Yes, it is returnable. So sorry for all of my typos above.

I would do that then and search for a setting that appeals to you.
I would start here: https://www.stuller.com/
Pretty much any jeweler can order it from there for you or you can shop the image around and see what comes up.
