I give up. My heart has been broken for the last time. For anyone who has read my posts, they know that I have had nothing but trouble with my pave set engagement ring and wedding ring since literally day one. There have been lost diamonds, bad sizing, long delays by the jeweler, bad diamond settings in the pave, white gold yellowing, replating, and now it's dingy again within a week of the replate. I have cried buckets of tears for hours on end, and I've only had the jewelry since the beginning of March. I finally worked up the nerve to tell my husband that as much as I love him and my rings, I am so very unhappy with it. I want my rings to be as perfect as our relationship, and they aren't. He replied that he wants me happy, and we'll do whatever we need to do.

So, I am searching for another setting. The jeweler has agreed to credit us every cent that we put into it. The jeweler believes that I can still do white gold, but I am not convinced. I have a feeling I just can't wear white gold....something in my system? I am so very afraid of the pave settings after having so much trouble with this one, but I love the bling factor. Oh my gosh I thought I was done making this kind of decision.

My questions are:
1. Will my .63 ct blue diamond look as nice in yellow gold as it does in white? Platinum is out of the question, unfortunately. Would it make a difference to make the head white gold?
2. What type of setting will give me the most bling without being pave? My finger is only a 4 3/4, so that it always an issue as far as setting design.
Thanks for any advice and pictures to give me ideas...

sorry for the big picture

Will it look ok in yellow gold, HECK YEAH! Absolutely dreamy my dear. What about rose gold--a bit of copper in there, like a gorgeous redhead wearing a beautiful blue robe.

Thanks...does rose gold maintain the color, or does it occasionally need some "touch ups"?

Need to touch up rose gold: I''ll have to leave that question up to the experts here. Otherwise...I might google for the answer.... Wish I knew! Didn''t think it needed touching up since the color comes from an original compound of elements.

Will your new setting be from the same vendor? I am so sorry.

I was told rose gold would always stay rosie.

Hopefully I was not lied too! haha. I love the color of rose gold. So warm and very pretty on the skin.

Your blue diamond is gorgeous! I wish you much luck in your search for a new setting. It''s good that you''re looking for something that you love, and not settling.

A quick 'n dirty P-shop makeover...

Sorry it's almost impossible (for me) to desaturate the little diamonds too much without making them look ridiculous!

I''m so sorry, kboggs!

Have you thought of using palladium? It has the look of platinum but the price seems to be running around the same as gold these days. Maybe 2 small side stones to make it a 3-stone ring?

Ninama....

Oh WOW....thank you for the visuals! Those are awesome! I''m liking the rose gold.....

Palladium? Honestly, I''ve never heard of it....

I tried on a Ritani wedding set at Robbins Brothers that was made out of palladium. It had engraving and diamond pave, but I doubt you would have any problem with the pave on a Ritani ring. It was gorgeous. I have not been able to find the set anywhere else since, not even on the Ritani website. It looked just like platinum, though and the whole set was only like $3,000.

I have to second, third, or whatever, the rose gold. The blue looks AMAZING with rose gold!

If you want to go with something whiter, I''d definitly try palladium. Read about it here. And what about putting diamonds in a channel setting for a bit more bling? They are less likely to fall out than pave if the setting is made correctly.

Nice PS job Ninama!

The rose gold looks amazing! and it doesn''t need touching up as it is rosy by virtue of the copper in the compound. It''s the rhodium plating on white gold that needs ''touching up''.

triple WOW''s for the rose gold!!! it would be perfect IMO.

The rose gold looks great but my heart belongs to yellow

. Honestly, either would look fantastic!!

I agree with honey.
Yellow gold with the blue diamond absolutely ROCKS!
Also, have to agree with Rhino, great photoshopping, Ninama! The images look amazing.

WOW!!! GREAT job Nim !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great PS job, that''s gorgeous!

One thing about Palladium, I recall a poster getting a setting made with it, and then had a hard time finding jewelers who would work on it. Just something to think about/check into.

I like the idea of rose gold. That''s a great photoshop!

Does the jeweller that you''re going with work in palladium at all?

Ok...any ideas about the setting? Getting the "bling" factor without Pave? Maybe channel sets?

Kristen,

I wish I had pictures that I could show you but I don''t...

I have a beautiful blue diamond of similar color to yours. Mine is a bit smaller but I think the effect would be the same... I have it set as a RHR and wear it often. It is bezel set in yellow gold. It is a contemporary design but I could easily see it with multiple stones down each side such as you describe in a channel setting. Maybe a half bezel for you?

I love what was done in PS with the rose gold and agree is it a beautiful color combination. I just wanted to reassure you that the blue with yellow gold would look fabulous as well. It comes down to a personal choice but no matter what you decide, that blue stone will look amazing!

Best wishes for lots of fun and enjoyment in finding what is as perfect as your love!

This description made me cry! So funny!!!! Redhead in a blue bathrobe!
I LOVE the look of the rose gold in the photoshop pics!

Very cool!

So sorry you''ve had such a hard time! I hope you find a solution that brings you total joy!

One more vote for the rose gold - the blue stone stands out more sharply in rose, because the rose blends more with your skin, leaving that ''pop'' of blue, whereas with the yellow, you see yellow and blue equally.
For bling - how about a shared prong setting of rounds? Channel set is nice, but you''re seeing metal. Shared prongs, you''re seeing more of just the stones.

I have a .75 RB Blue diamond that I wear with YG/Diamond wraps. I vote yellow gold all the way. BTW- Blue diamonds get so much attention and admiration. Be prepared.

Whats the difference between pave and shared prong?

Happy to help out.

I like the rose and blue, too... it evokes a vintage feminine glamor.

I think rich, vivid yellow gold would give a more ancient quality - like medieval illumination. Very royal! I guess what you have to watch out for is what the metal brings out in the stone. I think it could possibly appear greener in some. I don't know. There's the contrast (side by side) and whatever metal color bounces through the diamond.
