Apparently I failed Diamond 101 so I''m asking for your help. I am hesitant to buy online, sight unseen but perhaps they offer a better deal than private jewelers. I could be persuaded to change my thinking.

I want a better diamond, not a bigger one. I want a stone with excellent symmetry and amazing fire.

My requests:

At least a .50 ct
Excellent symmetry, it must be a well cut stone
Faceted girdle
E or F color.. no lower, I want colorless
VS1 or VS2 in clarity... no lower
I''d prefer to see a real photo of the diamond
I''d prefer to see an ideal-scope image

My budget is as close to $2000 as possible

OOOOH OOH I vote for the 1st diamond from Whiteflash that skippy posted. You won''t be disappointed there! I have a .70 H&A G color VS2 and it is a perty one! Lots of fire and sparkly! Cannot get better then that one! Good luck!

How do I reserve the stone? Do I have to place a deposit down on the cc? How does that work?

Also, how''s this one.. is it any better.. it seems closer to HCA 1 and the X falls in the middle of the squares.

Call them up and they will help you. You can use a credit card or wire money; they will tell you how to do it and what your options are. Looks like a nice one too!

I don''t know which one to reserve! They''re both so pretty.
 
Call quick - ask them to compare them side by side for you. See if John Pollard or Lesley will look for you.
 
I asked her when I just called and she said they are both beautiful stones and no one would be able to tell the difference side by side. I think I''m leaning towards the .53 F VS2 though. The other one has the inclusions right under the table.

And wouldn''t ya know it, the "private jeweler" that has the setting and band I want called a while ago and said they have two "gorgeous stones" for me to look at this evening. We shall see, but I''m almost convinced that WF will be a better deal. They said that the two stones that they got in today have GIA certs so I''ll go look just for grins but if they aren''t quite cherry, I think we''ll go with the one that is reserved at WF.

Thanks again to all who helped find stones for me.

Stay tuned for the final verdict.

Well that sucks! On a brigther side, are you close enough to visit WF? That way you can see the stones in person and put your mind at ease.
