Well as many of you know, I have been wanting an OEC for quite some time. I debated back in the summer of 2010 between an ideal RB (which I bought) vs a GOG AVR. Although the RB is a beautiful stone, I just kept longing for an OEC. I figured if I was going to finally get one, I should try to find my dream size of 3ct and get an original antique stone.
I kept looking at all of the usual places, missed out on several that JBEG had (really wanted the 3.62 that Armywife got) but I procrastinated too long waiting on another ring to sell that I had consigned with them. I ending up buying from Adam at OWD and I have to say he could not have been better to deal with. A no hassle upgrade policy if I ever want to.
I really wanted to find a deal on E-bay but I gave up thinking that it would ever be in the cards for me considering what I was looking for.
I just had Dave Atlas appraise the stone for me:
GIA, 3.09ct M VS1, 9.23 x 9.31 x 5.70. Table 49%, Depth 61.5%, Crown height 14%, Pavilion depth 43%, Crown angle 28.5 deg. The Sarin CutGrade Analyzer Light Performance grading tool gives an excellent rating for scintillation and very good for brilliance and fire. Dave says it is a great performer for a diamond of this time period.
The stone has been sent to Victor Caner and we will decide if it goes into my Sophia setting (I don't want it to compromise the setting) or maybe something totally different. I don't want to rush, just want to do the right thing. If the Sophia is not the best fit I can always put a colored gemstone in it (though he thinks it won't be a problem).
I won't be keeping my 2.73ct RB, don't see the need to have 2 large round diamonds. Don't know yet what I will do, have a little time to decide. Either get a smaller, higher color RB for another ring or a pair of studs. May just get the funds to go towards that sapphire I want.
So here she is and I am very content (sorry for the photo quality, I just can't seem to do justice like some of you can).
