I have been looking for an engagement ring online. My budget is about $2500 for ring and diamond, I just want a classic solitaire setting in 14k white gold, so I figue I can spend about 2300 on a diamond.
I have been looking at I color diamonds - in general to someone who isn't a diamond expert does an I diamond look yellow when not being compared to other diamonds?
I was in a few jewelery stores in the mall and was looking at some of their diamonds like the Leo and Tolvosky cuts and a couple that were rated as an I color (I think by EGS, it wasn't GIA or AGS) looked really yellow. Then I would compare them to other diamonds graded by the same lab as an H (only one step whiter) or also as an I and the other diamonds look colorless (to my eye). The stores even had non-graded diamonds that look much whiter than 2 of the EGS rated I diamonds.
I just don't want to buy a GIA or AGS I diamond online and be able to tell it is yellow, is it true that GIA and AGS are usually one step tougher in color rating?
