I am SO bad! I am seriously considering changing my setting...

Oh Woo you are gonna be in trouble when Daddy gets home!!!!

Will you put this new diamond in the current setting or are you going to reset it in something new?

Deanna - I agree with most of what''s been said. You wanted this new setting REAL bad. You''ve just had a fabulous trip AND bought a five carat tennis bracelet - by the way WHERE''S THE PICTURES? I too have been a terrible diamond whore over the years - I just traded in my Memoire band again - and am patiently waiting for the new one to arrive. That said I''d be the last person on earth to poo poo someone over trading in but I can''t help but think you are sort of riding an emotional high. Give it some time - sometimes what we see today we will rethink in a couple of weeks or months. I have been drooling over some of the solitaire mountings too but I love my three stone mounting and probably wouldn''t be happy with giving it up. I really don''t feel the upgrade bug regarding my center stone - I think the carat weight is fine for me - but I never say never. It does at some point, however, get ridiculous with the prices. There has to be a reasonable limit as to what you are willing to spend to wear on a finger. If you have plans to upgrade your stone in a couple of years I probably wouldn''t look at a new setting now. Just wait - there will always be something out there to call your name. Mountings can''t be upgraded - you''d end up with a drawer of them. I guess that''s why we drag our feet more over upgrading mountings. I hope this makes sense - seems sort of rambling. It''s just the diamond bug - and it''s difficult!!!!!

You have Diamond Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (DOCD), an illness many of us suffer from on this forum. DOCD, discovered by Dr. Brillianteering in the early 1900''s, is a manifestation of mental anomolies when perfectly sane individuals become the owners of high quality diamonds. What typically occurs for an accurate DOCD diagnosis is euphoria upon the purchase of a nice gem, followed by self doubt, and ultimately downright concern that the purchased stone has somehow magically changed in appearance while the owner slept. The illness has been known to migrate to the settings diamonds are often set in which are worn on a finger, on a necklace, in a pin or even an earlobe.

While there are no known medications available to combat DOCD, many people have reported the symptoms are reduced or completely eliminated by visiting chain jewelry stores, such as Zales or Kay, or having lunch with a friend who has a stone or setting of poorer quality than the DOCD sufferer.

hahaha oh you got it bad that is for sure...there is definitely no cure. the only treatment is to stop coming to PS forever...yeah right like that''s going to happen!

now i am definitely a diamond psycho like the rest of them....no one can debate that. BUT you gotta be smart about it. i personally don''t think you should act on anything yet with this other setting. i see a few settings i adore every year and it gives me serious setting doubt with my own setting etc. but my darling husband is only SO understanding, and i have to choose and pick my ''diamond battles''. you just finished a huge upgrade for you with a whole new set etc. i''d just let it calm for a while. take it from me that you will always see something you didn''t think of whether it''s now or a year later or two years later and you just have to be patient and think on things...i always tell myself well if you still want it in about a year or so, then you must REALLY want it and then we can talk (this is me to my self..hahaa). i am in love with classic solitaires right now with blingy eternity rings. but am i going to get it? no way....my husband would flip. so i have to consider him as well, and what seems ''reasonable'' and go from there.

not like this is a huge comparison but last nite i was watching secret lives of women on WE (what a wacko show but it''s like a train wreck you have to watch) and there as a show on addicts to plastic surgery and there was this youngish couple, she''d had about $100k in surgeries, some had been botched and she had to go in one last time to have it all ''fixed'' for another $55k. she and her husband lived a decent live in the santa cruz mountains, they were totally in debt from all her stuff, but she just had to have the last surgery to ''fix'' everything. her poor husband..he was like i love you and i don''t want you to be unhappy but we are totally already in debt and where are we going to find 55k more etc. she was like well i don''t want to feel selfish but i really want this and want to do it so we have to make it work somehow. the poor husband (who was sweet but seriously had to have a screw loose to be with this wacko and go along with this all) let her do it and in the end they had to sell their beautiful house to pay off their debts then moved to texas. the gal obviously had huge issues.

anyway i told Dem that there should be a secret lives of women show on diamond addicts!! i felt so normal after watching that show...haha...but anyway i thought wow that''s kind of like how we diamond nuts can get when we REALLY want something, obviously no one is going into debt for this stuff, well i hope not, and i certainly hope not to the tune of 55k or whatever, but it''s still a ''want'' and something you feel like you ''need'' to have. it''s kind of interesting.

i digress but i just think you should take a chill pill and relax, come down off the euphoria of your fabulous trip and maybe in a few years you can do a 3 stone setting. i plan to do one in the next few years as well to give me more finger bling til year 10 when i can upgrade again, but it will be really sad to get rid of my solitaire!

welcome home!
As usual, Mara you are one of the voices of reason here...and I seriously am re-reading your post. I do love this setting and its utter elegant simplicity...and I will upgrade WHEN the timing is right...but taking a few extra breathes and "chilling" is definitely the right Rx for right now...

I SAW that episode. That was TRAGIC!!! Her poor husband & kid!

Deannabana ... I think, like others have said, what you''re going through is perfectly natural, but don''t do anything hastily. The key word you said ''vacation'' ... so many impulse diamond/jewelry purchases are made ON VACATION. People are relaxed, away from their lives, away from financial pressures & worries & the day to day grind. PLUS, they''re surrounded with other people''s bling & supposed ''good deals'' on the islands. It''s a living ''dream'', and stuff you see takes on magical qualities. I doubt that if you saw the exact same set in your local jeweler''s case on a rainy Tuesday, that it would have the same ''hold'' on you.

My advice: take a little break from serious diamond shopping ... keep looking around at stuff you like & don''t like ... and see how your tastes change over the next 6 mos. to a year. Try on everything you can, wherever you can. And then broach the upgrade discussion.
Sundial, kaleigh, Deco, Mara, mrssalvo and others: I agree to HOLD OFF on any more diamond buying. It''s like quicksand...before you know it, you are sinking and sinking FAST...

Besides, I have my son''s wedding to finish working on, a backyard to finish in time for the open house following the wedding reception for those who could not come to the wedding and reception, etc...I am feeling SO much clearer in my head about this...

Thanks, girlfriend! Shall I start looking now for a nice, quiet place where you and Dem and I can share a room???!! And maybe we can even request some special lighting for it, like Home Depot or Macaroni Grill has???!!

WOOOOO, Lynn that is to great!!! Show me a picture :) That way I will know what I am waiting for, YEAH! Do jewelers mind if you take a picture of the stone before you get it out of layaway??? I want to go and take one but don''t know if that would be considered strange???? The hubby is going to faint. He thought for sure it would take me a long time to find that PERFECT BIG STONE.....hehehehehe! Now how to break this wonderful news to him.

I hope you are still on line Woo, because I hadn''t got to tell anyone yet! me and you so think alike, my hubby is going this weekend and paying off the difference ( which isn''t that much ) on my upgrade of my ering, and he is letting me get a RHR for our 5th wedding Ann. this summer. I''m thinking about a 3ct emerald cut center with trillions plain smooth band. I will ware it when I just ware my eternity band on my left hand, unless I want someone to knock me in the head and still my bling I could ware it all together. lol
face20.gif
Because my ering center is like a 1.98ct so If I could get anywhere from a 2.75 to a 3ct would be fine!!!! ha ha lol lol
face20.gif
. Hubby said that this is it, ( in a nice way ) and I was like but babe I was looking at some huggie hoop earrings!!!
face22.gif
We have like three
face7.gif
just three months to pay for my RHR I guess I better get to my jeweler!
face6.gif
( Woo if you get pics we need to see )

Love it
emteeth.gif
It makes me feel better that someone else is crazy like me! Your upgrade is soooooooooooooooo FAB!!! I feel like it is going to be forever before I can get my new stone. I am hoping the hubby comes back and says that I can just go for it....... I can''t wait to see your RHR.....OH MY GAUD, it sounds to die for!! Your jeweler must love you as much as mine loves me.......hehehehehe! What did your hubby say when you changed your mind several times? MY hubby thinks I am a nut but I know what I want the final set to look like, I am just doing it in stages........YOU GO GIRL

Oh Woo, when he got home the other night and I showed him the new ering he was like is this the one? Like it was any kind of a question. ha ha ha lol
face20.gif
He was like then Thank God, it''s about time
face14.gif
. He''s great! I hope your hubby lets you go all the way for it, that''s the funny thing about my RHR my hubby will know what I get when he sees it. lol
face20.gif
I think it will be better that way, he doesn''t really care as long as I''m happy!
emteeth.gif
I think it takes a nut to love a nut. I''ve been thinking about trillions since I looked at that one when I was thinking about getting that princess cut. Just when you tell your hubby just make sure he is setting down. lol I think I''ll have my hubby strapped down in a chair when I go to show him so that way when he passes out he wont hit his head...
emdgust.gif
keep me post and good luck Woo!!!!!

2.36ct Very nice Woo, very nice!

Hi Deanna

Hope your trip was incredible. Working the way I know you do, you certainly needed it.

How did your diamond cushion look as compared to the other stones you saw while on your trip. Knowing your stone, and how it looks, I think you saw it was a lot "better" than what most people are wearing. That should give a bit of a comfort zone, while you think about the changing of the mounting.

Being a pet rock junkie is a good addiction. (Better than a lot of the other addictions out there). But who am I to talk... I have pet rock addicition far worse than most.

Best regards

Rockdoc

Deanne....you are so not alone! I am on my 4th setting with my diamond....and that''s only been since last July when I got it! I really don''t count the first solitaire since I knew it was going to be a temp setting anyway.
2.gif
Every time I got a new setting I swore THIS IS IT! Even this last setting I got at the end of December had me thinking I wanted something different.
7.gif

Then I put the ring away for a few days and wore a different ring, mainly b/c the knife edge on my ring was bothering me (I realize now I was using this awful new hand lotion that had alpha hydroxy in it and was exfoliating my skin and making it raw)...Long story short, I wore the ring again yesterday and it made me realize why I picked it to begin with. It also looked bigger than I remember too.
2.gif

That doesn''t mean I don''t still look and think "Hmmmmm....."
11.gif
I see a lot of rings since I work with the public and I have got to say, the rings here on PS are so much prettier than anything I have seen out in the real world.

Your ring is so pretty but if you are truly unhappy then maybe you should change it. Like I said, it took me 4 tries before I found the setting I liked.

Pebbles, do you have pictures of the different stages...
