Hello all

I am a first time buyer and would like to seek expert advice on my situation

I am going to buy a diamond from USA Cert and they will send it to an appraiser in Chicago. If I like it, I will buy it right away and have the setting put on in another location that same day.

Here are the specs of the diamond

Shape: Round Brillant
Measurements 4.58-4.61 *2.77mm
Weight: 0.35
Diameter: 4.59
Crown Angle: 33.7
Crown Height: 15.3
Pavilion Angle 40.7
Pavilion Depth: 42.5
Culet: 1.1
Table size 54.5% (but GIA reports it as 56%) ??
Total Depth 60.3%
Girdle Thickness 0.5-1.4
Proportion cut grade: 0
Clarity: IF
Color: D
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None
$1255

Is the price too good to be true?
What if the Sarin report is fake or does not match the diamond?
What if the GIA report is fake or does not match the diamond?

I will not be able to look at the diamond before the appraisal and because it is D and IF, it will be hard for me to see any inclusions. So how can I reassure myself that the diamond is not switched by the appraiser or USA Cert?

Also another bad thing is that there is no inscription on the diamond.

I just need some reassurances

Thanks

Use the efforts of the appraiser to give you the piece of mind you need. That's why you're paying him.

You can always use the chargeback option if you get hacked off!

What if the appraiser is in cahoots with the seller?

I know I know this is getting really paranoid..

You don't trust the seller, the appraiser, or yourself in choosing the seller or appraiser? Hmmm. I guess you could buy an EightStar....ouch!

You need to have confidence that your appraiser is independent. (Dave Atlas or Rockdoc come recommended.) A professional appraiser won't put his good name at risk and will give you the straight poop. I'm guessing Martin at USA Cert wouldn't risk his good name to steer you wrong, either.

Good luck!

Edited to add that Pricescope has info on appraisers right at your fingertips at this site. Did you take a look?

Yes I did

but the appraiser that USA Cert provided is not on this list and they have never used him before as well.

hmm this is heart-wrenching!
