I am appalled by my local jewelery stores

l have been calling several local jewelers and none of them knew what IS and ASET were when I asked if they provided this service.

I had to explain what they are and then was told by one that is only provided by AGL in New York and it's VERRRRRRRY exspensive.

These are reputable stores in my area! How can you be in the business of diamonds and gems and not know this stuff?

Since you are wanting to shop locally, why not get your own Idealscope (it's not expensive and it is easy to use)?

You can also buy a handheld ASET.

You are not alone with those experiences. I'm in FL and have gone to about over 10 jewelry stores here and none of them knew what I was talking about in terms of IS or ASET, in fact many confused them for hearts and arrow viewers. I had to shake my head in disgust and walk out. Only a couple places had one or the other though. Helzberg diamonds had an ASET from AGS and Jared's had a "firescope". But you can't expect much from these chain or smaller jewelry stores. On Pricescope we are a special breed when it comes to jewelry expectations and knowledge.

Doing a quick search on the internet, the aset handheld runs $25 and idealscope $60-$70. If you really want those images, buy the tools and use them on the diamonds you are really serious about (and impress the jewelers as well!) Good luck!

“Old Northeast Jewelers,” with stores in the Tampa International Plaza, and also in downtown St. Petersburg, carry top cut diamonds and do performance demos using both ASET and H&A viewers. They’re Crafted By Infinity dealers. CBI cuts top-of-the-line AGS0, H&A diamonds.

I am not looking to buy locally, I wanted to have IS and ASET done of my diamond to sell it. I can't take good pics like that.

Yes, I've heard of them, but that's a two hour drive, thankfully I was able to get a stone off WF.

What you're asking for is an appraisal, and you might have better luck looking for appraisers. T'aint the same thing.
