I bought this on a thrift web site where it was listed as a blue topaz. It looks like it's had an interesting life! First, and foremost, it is in fact a blue spinel. It looks as though it was 2 seperate pieces soldered together. The gold around the stone tested at 14k and the handmade band registered 9k.
I've been having a difficult time decided on if this stone is real or synthetic.
It has a single RI of 1.72. In the picture, if you zoom in, you can see slight inclutions. The attached band has a very old feel to it, which is why I posted it here. I don't have the extra money to get it to GIA so I'm curious as to your thoughts!
