Hello everyone,

I am completely new to pricescope. I like the forums as they provide detailed information.
Basically there is a diamond I''m interested in purchasing for an investment. However, it''s an HRD Certificate BELTEST.
It states it''s:

certificate no. 20030081201
Shape Emerald
Weight 7.56 ct
clarity grade vvs2
flourescence slight
colour grade sl. tinted white (I)
Measurements 13.74 x 10.07 x 6.13mm
girdle medium 4% polished
culet linear
table width 70%
cr. height 6.5%
pav. depth 48.5%
finish grade very good

Is this HRD a reputable company? How can I verify this certificate?
As a diamond, how much would a diamond such as this cost? I don''t like the fact that it''s I color. Would it show up really yellowish if it''s I color? I usually don''t like diamonds with colors lower than a G color. It states it''s sl.(slightly?) tinted white.
I am looking for a very special piece for a very special occasion, and as an investment. Would the value hold up for a diamond with these specs?

Can anyone advise on this?

Hello everyone,

Basically there is a diamond I'm interested in purchasing for an investment. However, it's an HRD Certificate BELTEST.
It states it's:

certificate no. 20030081201
Shape Emerald
Weight 7.56 ct
clarity grade vvs2
flourescence slight What color? Blue?
colour grade sl. tinted white (I) Could be a GIA "J"!!!
Measurements 13.74 x 10.07 x 6.13mm
girdle medium 4% polished
culet linear
table width 70%
cr. height 6.5% In my opinion..., to low, especially for an EC this size!!!
pav. depth 48.5%
finish grade very good

Is this HRD a reputable company? How can I verify this certificate? YES..., but mainly in Europe!!!

If it an I it will show yellower than a G..., The fluo. if its blue could whiten the appearance!
Investment wise..., it would depend on the price paid...
Availability: low (very sought after size)
Value: if its a great cut the value will appreciate in the near future (in my opinion)!! BUT..., I have a big problem with the crown height!!!

A picture will help!

BTW..., I just noticed..., this post should be in Rocky?

Hi Antique Diamond-Gem,

Thank you for the prompt response. So a J color would look yellowish and since the crown height isn''t as high as it should be, it won''t shine as much?
This being as is, how much would be a fair amount to pay for this diamond?
Lastly, what role does the flourescence play?

Thanks.

Here is one pic of it.

Here is the other one. What would be considered a good deal for this type of diamond? And the fact that the crown height is so low, this will have a big impact on the overall look of it? Also the HRD report doesn''t state the flourescence. All is says about it is that it''s "slight"
What would be considered a good deal for this diamond? Is it a good investment? Thank you for any information...

I didnt say J would look yellowish..., but it will be more tinted than a G.
Missing a CH combining with a 70% table means the CA is shallow, and the stone would probably miss its "sculpture" effect... (crown popping out of the setting!)
The second issue can be minimum crown reflection..., (due to a shallow crown angle.)

I dont discuss value..., sorry!

Blue fluo. can help achieve a whiter appearance..., but could be not an issue as it is graded only slight!

Picture to small to give opinion..., BTW..., are you sure it is the correct pic. of the EC in subject?

Investment wise: see my comment above!!!

Welcome Arax

It looks huge for 7 carats compared to the larger ones I have seen, although I am not an expert like DiaGem, I was also wondering if the pic is of the same diamond.

HRD is reputable but I would not buy that EC. I colour is way too low, especially so in a step cut in that size. Worse yet is the crown height of 6.5%. The top section of the EC will be very flat and have practically no life. I''d pass on it and keep looking.

Thank you all for your professional opinions. The asking price was $20k, which I thought was a great buy. Is it or not? If it''s this dull, I don''t want it. Even though I can''t get anything remotely close to this price and carat weight.

Run..., run..., ruuuunnnnnnnn!!!

impossible!!!

Roxy,
I'm not in the trade, just an ordinary person who loves diamonds, especially emerald cuts, so I spend a lot of time studying about them. $20K is way too cheap for a I VVS1 7 ct EC. Something is very fishy here.

Arax, I am just a consumer with a huge interest in diamonds. That price is so CHEAP, you have to ask why a diamond of that size and specs is being sold for 20k....

I would walk away for sure, something isn't right...

.

Out of interest, here is a J SI2 clarity 7 carat EC which is in the region of $73k, so an I VVS should be more.

No way.

Run, dont walk.

It could be 20K per carat. So total would be around 140k and for this stone doesnt worth.

This price is impossible.

If you want it invest in diamond my suggestion is always go with hard to find diamonds.

G VS or above(of course ideal cut)These kind a diamonds always make money.

If you want to invest in auto i guess you wouldn''t do with Ford Taurus right?

Hi everyone, thank you for the alerts. He says he really needs the money. He accepts paypal. I am so tempted to buy it.
With a purchase with paypal, I can get my money back, can''t I?
Thank you.

don''t do it...and just about everyone I know *needs the money* but I''m certainly not handing over 20K....paypal can be a huge ordeal and you''re not guarenteed to get your $$ back...steer clear my friend...

in most cases paypal will only guarantee max of 2k protection. i think "i really need the money" is the default scam line to use - if he really did he would be able to sell it to a B&M store for more than that.

i know it''s hard to pass up a potential deal, but this most likely is not a deal and not worth the risk!

How can any diamond be an investment?
I''ve been lurking for a long time and read here on PS that people selling their diamonds better not expect to get anything near what they paid.

A private individual must sell for a lower price because he is not a store.
That''s just the way it is.

If it is half that means you have to wait years and years for diamonds to double in price just to break even.
Then inflation gets you.

Buy a diamond because you love it, but I don''t think of them as investments.

Ditto ditto ditto. This diamond will not be an investment and I can''t advise you strongly enough to run from this deal. 20K is a LOT to lose if it goes wrong, let someone else take the chance!!
