HPHT diamond with blue phospherence?!

Hi all!

I ordered two D color, 0.26CT HPHT diamonds from Ritani, along with a cheap UV light from Amazon to test for phospherence just for fun. I saw a post by Lindsay from Ada Diamonds showing how some HPHT diamonds have orange/yellow phospherence and also saw this GIA study about this.

One of the diamonds didn't react at all, even after holding the UV light to it for multiple minutes. The other one, however, glowed blue with not a hint of yellow. I tried to capture this with my phone. It glowed for about 3-5 minutes before getting dimmer. It did not have fluorescence, I think, since it didn't glow under the UV light but rather only after I turned it off. What could this be? Also very surprised that the other diamond with the same specs from the same lab does not exhibit this?

Super curious to hear your thoughts! PXL_20230419_042248367.jpg PXL_20230419_042431945.jpg

I actually just read on Ada diamonds website that light blue phospherence is also possible, so I guess it isn't as rare as I thought, I just had only seen pictures with orange glow online

That’s so cool! I haven’t seen any lab diamonds with fluorescence or phosphorescence yet.

I had an EG one that did that. I think that is really cool. Off to play with my lab diamonds and see if any of mine do this.

I had to check out my stash too. I have one tiny natural diamond that is also a strong blue, and the phosporescence is wild! It shone like a bright dot for two minutes. I found my lab CVD 2.3 ct had a soft blue phosphorescence, a couple melee in my blue sapphire ring did too, and also my natural EG old mine was a red phosporescence! My yellow HPHT had none. I forgot to check my new Brian Gavin EG studs, one is a strong blue flouro.

Science!
