I''m currently in the process of designing a Tiffany''s Legacy replica ring that is almost identical to londonblue''s ring shown in this thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/moved-wip-quest-custom-sapphire-halo-ering-eternity-band-its-almost-done.46359/. My sapphire is considerably smaller than londonblue''s, as mine is 5.2mm in diameter, while his is 5.7mm. I''d like to get the halo around the sapphire as small as possible. (Londonblue''s halo is 1.5mm, using 1pt diamonds. Any suggestions how small I should go, or how to do this? How small of diamonds could I realistically use? Does anyone have photos of very small halos?

Has anyone every used very small diamonds in a channel set with millgraine edges?

Thanks!

hi lindsey. Honestly, you''re best bet would be to ask the person making your ring. I''m not sure how small they can go on the halo without it looking like more metal than diamonds. I''m sure as long as you''re working with a reputable vendor your ring will be wonderful..

Hmm I don''t think there will be much of a visual difference between 5.2mm and 5.7m.

I love londonblue''s ring, and I think I recall somewhere in his thread he said Quest reckoned 1/2 pointers might be too small for the halo and that the beads might overwhelm the little stones?

Firegoddess has one of the most delicate halos I have seen on PS - not sure how big the stones in her halo is, gimme a sec, I''ll search for it!

Here u go - she''s got 2 pt melee in the shanks, 1 pt melee in the halo:

Quest made my halo ring for my asscher. I used one pointers and am very pleased with it. Good luck!!

Love FG''s... very delicate... but hers isn''t a legacy style.. no milgrain ans such to add to the thickness. I''d shoot for 1.25-1.5 in thickness myself... but I don''t know if your jeweler would be able to do that.

Is there any such thing as 3/4 point melee? Don''t know squat about melee over here.

thanks! yes, Pete told me that 1/2 pointers would probably look too tiny and appear to be just another bead in the bead settings, so he recommended 1 pointers instead. He originally recommended 1.5 pointers but fortunately when he had my stone in person, they realized that 1 pointers would make a much more delicate and nicer halo.

since my fiance is abroad i have the ring in my keeping, hehe

so i'll post some photos w/ a ruler for reference

Londonblue - I can''t believe she could let that puppy out of her sight

and not take it with her!

I am guessing that 1 pointers will look best but you should confirm that with Quest.
londonblue, your ring has been quite an inspiration!

I also have a sapphire and I was going to set it in my original e-ring mounting.

But, and upon seeing your thread in SMTR, I INSTANTLY realized I HAD to mount my sapphire in a beautiful halo like yours.

I made a couple modifications, since mine will be a RHR.
Instead of the surprise diamond, I am getting a simpler, larger, more rounded gallery and the shanks on mine will get wider as they approach the head.

But for the halo, I am getting the same 1-pointer with milgrain, etc.

What a gorgeous ring!!
Since I am normally very indecisive, it is nice to find "The One".

eta: welcome lindsay!

Thanks everyone! That pear-shaped ring with 2pt melee and no millgrain edges looks great. That''s the best way to shrink down a halo that I''ve seen so far. It looks very delicate and light. However, I really love the antique look of the millgrain edge, so my designer is doing the smallest millgrain possible.

After I agonized over this detail for weeks, my tortured designer recommended that I use .9mm diamonds, which would save on width, but not let the diamonds get lost in the beads. Does anyone know what that converts to in "pointer" size?

I can''t believe how helpful everyone on this forum is! Thanks so much! You''re ring-savers!

Ohhh YEAH!! Another gemstone E-ring... OHHH!!!!

I have absolutely no significant of helpful adive, except that I want to see pictures when it is done!!!

ETA: BTW my Bands and Halo are 1 pointers.

That is my pear ring above, and the halo is 1 pointers as previously mentioned.

I am posting another picture as well. My diamond is 1.5 ct in the center. The halo IS very delicate looking and that is what I love about it. I am a lover of all things vintage, and I did want milgraining on this ring, but it would have added thickness to the design that I would not tolerate. So I had to forego the milgraining, even though I love it. However, the ring still has a very vintage look and whenever anyone comments on the ring, "vintage" is always a word that they use. So you won't necessarily lose that look just by not having milgrain. It would be a way to considerably lessen the size of your halo.

I will say that even in the photo I have attached below, the halo looks bigger than it is. It more resembles the scale in my avatar. It truly makes the pear the main attraction, and more provides the 'glitter' around it.
