How to set my JW aqua?

I posted a few weeks ago about my JW aqua. DH finally gave me the go ahead to have it set so I'm throwing around some ideas in my head about what I want to do. All of my CS rings are haloed so for this project I really want to do something different then my norm. I have been drooling over split shanks for a while now- something with a simple diamond basket sounds like perfection to me. However I"m nervous that since the stone will be so open that it will damage the aqua. I'm also nervous because the aqua is less saturated, white gold and diamonds might wash it out even more.

I really want to stick with something art deco as those designs are usually the ones that pull at my heart. Does anyone have some inspirations for other designs or thoughts on my suggestion?

ah HA!!!! I found Widget's ring that is very similar to what I'm describing...do you think this setting would wash out the aqua too much? I just love the flow of the ring and think it would look amazing with an antique cushion.

I do like the idea of an antique cushion in a split shank - just for a visual here's one from Victor Canera with a 2ct cushion diamond - check out the video at the link for a 360 view...

To enrich the blue of the Aqua I wonder how'd it'd be to have a high-karat yellow gold basket, with the split-shank in white gold? What are the dimensions of your Aqua - it's over 4.5 carats, right?

I have no pic for this, but I am thinking three stone with two sizeable TABLE cut diamonds, though I have no idea where one would go to look for them. Can diamond be cut on demand like colored stones?

An enclosed type setting in rose gold with richen the blue colouration of the aqua.

VL,
What is a table cut?

I always get excited when you post about a project because I love your style! Ok, I have two thoughts for you both Art Decoish!

1. How about tapered baguettes, one each side? I have an Aqua in that setting (although the setting is really not good quality but I like the finished look - from afar!). Mine is set in white gold and I'm afraid that it doesn't do anything for the aqua and if I were to do it again I'd certainly re-think that aspect. Or you could have split shoulders with a tapered baguette on each arm leading down to a plain band of your chosen metal.

or

2. I'm attaching a photo of my Ruby that I designed specifically with an Art Deco look in mind. How about something like this for the sides? It's 3 princess cut diamonds in case you can't see from the photo. No split shank though.

A table cut is a very old diamond cut, basically just an octahedron with one point lopped off along a cleavage plane roughly midway between the equator of the stone and the point.

Oh...that table cut. I'm afraid it would do nothing for the gemstone, looking more like a flat cabochon or polished piece of rough. The effect is certainly going to be different (no sparkle or flash).

Well I thought that modern sparklies would upstage the aqua.

Here is one in an 18th C ring

and a whole mess of them in a bracelet

Vapid, love the pieces you posted....and i think the bracelet could be ripped off design wise for a really unique ring.

eta: i agree sparklies will upstage this aqua.

I'm concerned that a non sparkly gem will essentially look like a piece of coloured glass. One way to get some sparklies but not overshadow it might be single cut diamond melees which fits in perfectly with the Art Deco period.

Thanks everyone for the advise. I hadn't throught about rose gold, but I'm not sure if that would go with my aqua. I will try taking a photo of it next to a penny. When I put it next to my ering the color does stand out. Not vivid but you can definitely tell it is a greenish blue/ pale blue color. The pictures of my aqua really are craptastic. It is darker in tone...more of a seafoam color just not saturated like TB or BrightIce. I perfer softer shades.

For some reason I really want a split shank for this ring with 3 sided pave. So simple and elegant, but then it feels like I'm getting the same ring that I always get just minus the halo. I also love the french cut craze that is going on and I think the aqua would look great with frenchies and double claw prongs  But I'm not sure if I want to spend that muh money on a setting for an aqua when I have my tsav project in the works too.

And thank you LD for your compliment! I admire your comments and knowledge of CS so much...I'm completely blown away that you look forward to my posts! =)
