How to search for diamond earrings online and in person?

I posted on here yesterday re: finding diamond engagement earrings for my GF and I am SO appreciative of all the support and help. I felt like I was wandering aimlessly through the desert and was completely lost and now I feel like I at least have some idea of where I'm going. From the comments and my readings on PS and elsewhere, here's my initial takeaways for diamond earrings:

1. The cut is king and by far the most important thing (but not only) to consider when making a purchase
2. Using the Ideal Scope, I can get a feel for how well cut a particular diamond is
3. Focus on diamonds with the ideal ratios, using the HCA tool as a guide
4. Also trust your eyes and see how they look in person

Assuming this is a good high level way to approach things (and please correct me if I got anything wrong or missed out on anything, I'm a noob after all), what is a good approach both online and in person from a search perspective?

1. If I go in person, can I ask to see a diamond under an ideal scope or is that never going to happen? Can I bring my own instead? If online, how often will a site have ideal scope shots?
2. Is there an easy way to search diamonds that will automatically have high HCA scores to quickly get to great deals? Or do I have to MANUALLY go through each one's GIA report (seems insane to me)
3. I don't want to be obnoxious when searching in person, but is it reasonable to ask to look at diamonds with particular ratios, at particular price points and then view through an ideal scope when chatting with online support or when calling jewelers?

Very curious how everyone approaches the search process without being annoying. It just seems like there's a lot to investigate and I'm not sure how to be efficient and respectful to all involved. Appreciate any and all advice!!

The PS search at the top of the page will give HCA info for stones. Put in your parameters and see what comes up. It's a good place to start.
