How to resell .73, G, I1 diamond

I have a ring from a previous engagement that ended less than well. Several years later, I''m ready to ready to try again with the perfect woman. I am still in possession of the first ring but obviously cannot use the same stone. I''m wondering the best way to recover the cost. Any ideas? As I said in the subject line, the stone is .73, G, I1. I have been told by several jewelers that it is a "very nice stone." One said it appears to have a higher clarity than an I1. Paid $1423 for the stone and $400 for a beautiful custom setting.

Run a search on 'selling' or similar...there are alot of similar posts in the past...some may have information that can be helpful. There are ways to sell or trade a stone but it really depends. If you can find a jeweler who will take your old stone in trade for a new one, that's ideal...what about the original jeweler? Or if you find a new jeweler, he may take the stone as trade...but it would probably be less than the original jeweler (who may take it for what you paid). It would really have to be tried to find out. Selling wise..you can try eBay but it's a bargain hunter's paradise, try the classifieds or a Craigs List possibly. The more information you have on the stone and/or ring the better. If it's not certified, you may want to send it to GIA to get it certified and then you will know color and clarity for sure. Having a cert from a reputable lab may help sell it, if that's the route you take.




There are alot of options, none of them will net you what you paid or close to it...try a trade if possible with old jeweler or a new jeweler and if not, try different sales tactics. Be prepared to take a huge loss if you sell it. If it's an eye-clean I1...it could be a good deal!

Uhhmmm, not sure that a GIA cert may be helpful on an I 1 stone... Me, I would go for an EGL cert. If it comes back as SI 3, it may be a lot easier to sell. A lot of folks are not happy to put an ''imperfect'' stone on their wives' finger. That said, I love a good I1; it can represent an exceptional value... But on eBay or most other selling routes they do not seem to be that appreciated.

Hi,

Your best bet may be to use the diamond as a tradein on a new diamond.

Selling a diamond can be a royal pain or worse for a consumer.

It is somewhat like trading a used car in on a new car.

Yes, if you find a willing buyer , they may pay more than the dealer.

The trick is finding the willing buyer.


Ps. I would not spend any more money on the diamond you have, Eg. appraisals or lab reports.
