So I have a few pendants now and I think I’d like to start layering them since I really like the look.

But I’ve never done it before so it looks weird when I try!

Should the chains be the same width?

If they aren’t the same material, will the chains rubbing cause issues and wear?

Is there a way to minimize tangling?

Also does it look better when there’s more length difference?
Here’s a picture of the top pendant at 14”, does 14” look too short?

Would love to see how other layer!

I don't layer necklaces (too old & too boring!) but you absolutely ROCK this combo!

I don't layer either because I usually wear heavier pieces and don't have more delicate pieces to layer. But I love the look! I like both 14" and 16" lengths on you, and would like to see both the 14 and 16 with your paw pendant, for a total of 3.

I think layering looks better in odd numbers. You need an in between length to add to that combo.

I don’t layer my necklaces either but maybe that’s because I only have one diamond necklace that I wear all the time. I like the 16” better than the 14” length on you.

I seem to remember @LLJsmom does this really well. Maybe she will have some advice?

I have never figured out how not to have things tangle!

@Tonks thank you very nice of you.

I don’t do anything special. I just layer pendants I like. I wear most of my necklaces pretty short. 17 inches feels long to me. So most are 15-16 inches. I usually stick with one color of metal. I don’t mix rose and yellow with white. They tangle inevitably but it doesn’t bother me much. i just untangle a couple times a day. Here are some combos. I seldom do more than 2. 7E6E472D-7A1E-4977-9566-473C3B83B37E.jpeg B6DCA3C9-C36E-43BE-8EF8-D602BCE1D5AC.jpeg 334BB13D-ECD6-4FD6-A2DC-549D061337D2.jpeg 7AFE1E35-F550-4A21-8839-94BF50F66C8F.jpeg

Yes! Neckmess!

Also, if you worry about tangling, get yourself a 3- or 4- Hook pearl/torsade clasp in your chosen metal. There are vintage ones out there but you can also find new ones. They keep the chains from tangling and you can swap out the attachments. Good luck and have fun!

I love the look, but the chains always twist up on me.
This sounds like a great solution! Maybe I can make a sterling one one with small lobster claw clasp attachments. I think it would work.
Thanks for the tip!!!

Some enterprising soul is marketing them as neckmess clasps and doubling or tripling the price. I mean, I’m all for capitalism and all, but they shouldn’t cost very much! They have been around for thousands of years... the Greeks invented them, and of course the Romans copied...

I’ve been wearing these two necklaces for a while and I love the look! Top is an 18k hamsa and evil eye charm pendant with bead set diamonds and a sapphire in each. About 16”. Bottom is a cheap Instagram ad impulse purchase but it’s held up so well! Gold plate bead chain with a carved mother of pearl horn pendant. About 20”.
