How to keep your cats off of your counters and away from your plants!

Or, I've heard this works, too.

That''s the beauty of it Sunnyd - your cats would never go near your blender again!

HAHA that's BRILLIANT!!! love the one with the big black cat jumping... we could use something like this!

OMG, thanks for the laugh

That last cat is my favourite!!!

hmm, wonder what would happen if the plant is cat mint...

Omg that''s genius! I need a motion-activated vacuum or something for my little devils

Omg, that was hysterical!!!

LOL! That is hysterical! Especially that last video.

This is hilarious and ingenious! My cat (Wednesday) and I have a constant power struggle going on. She gets on the table/counter to eat the plants, I drench her with the water bottle, she chortles at me and walks away for ten minutes. And then we go through the whole routine again. I have tried spray bottles, coins in a can, even cling wrap to make it uncomfortable for her to walk on. Nothing works. I am now going to rig my blender. And tape it. Haha

My mother always tells me to put tin foil on anything I don''t want the cats to be on. Has anyone tried this?

I should see if my fiancé would be willing to rig something like this up.....

OMG, I just peed my pants a little.

That's hysterical!

I thought the cat lovers would go on the warpath here.
(Have you guys seen The Ultimate Cat Carrier?)

Totally doesn''t work for me. And I tried everything Poptart tried too. None of it works. The worst is that only one used to be the offender but since I went home for a week and left BF in charge of the cats, BOTH now go up on the counter all the time. They go on top of the cabinets where it''s all dusty and chase each other around and then track dusty pawprints all over my counters.

I think it's cruel. To me. That thing would scare the crap out of me everytime I walked into the kitchen. Honestly though, I wouldn't do it to my cats. Or to me.

While I do think it is somewhat amusing, I agree with Gypsy. I just don''t think I could bring myself to do that to my cats.

Warpath? Nah. I''d love something like this, though it''d probably give me a heartattack if it went off in the middle of the night! For us it''s not just dusty pawprints - it''s sometimes littery pawprints, three sets of them
38.gif

My son and I got a good laugh out of that!

the black cat-hahaha.

LOL. Oh, no. Loud noises!

I don't know about yours, but it's just in my cats' nature to overreact similar to the ones in the videos. I turn on the vaccuum cleaner in a completely different room, and I can hear cats bouncing off of walls/ceilings/toilets/bathtubs/etc. I'm not worried about them being hurt by a little noise.
3.gif

I feel the guy's pain, though. If I wash basil or lettuce and leave it in the sink, I can be assured that at least one of my cats will hop up to the counter with his litter-filled paws trying to sample some.

I think a more cat-friendly alternative would be to blow up a balloon. Let your cat smell it, examine it, etc. Then pop that balloon in front of him and leave an uninflated balloon anywhere you don't want him to go.

I think it would make some cats more neurotic than they are already LOL. Though I would just love to find a way to get them to stop scratching all the furniture (mahogany wood table, end tables, and couches, etc) and chewing everything they can get their little mouths around!!

Cat''s don''t like lemon or other citrus odors. I have a favourite wool rug that my cat LOVES to dig his claws into. I just spray a little lemon/orange juice mixed with water on it about once a week, and it curbs the massive amount of damage he could be doing to it. Not sure if it would work with wood surfaces, but it has helped tremendously on our couches.

Also, try moving a scratching post (or 2 or 3) near your cats'' favourite places to scratch. They *should* gravitate toward the scratching post instead of your treasured furniture.

Hah! I thought that too, until in desperation I rubbed down literally every inch of our counters with lime juice, went to bed satisfied and smug... wake up in the middle of the night for water and what do I see? Our girl licking the counter clean

LOL LOL LOL
They can be little monsters, can't they

I appreciate the suggestions LTP

It is such a shame what they have done to all our beautiful antique wood furniture and our couches from ABC carpet.

This was Francesca (the baby) the other day...if she was any heavier I fear she would have broken our custom wood blinds...or worse- gotten hurt! Luckily she's OK

That is just too cute for words... awwww! Glad she isn't breaking them, though - it would cease to be cute in very short order

Francesca is the queen of the jungle after all

Not sure how she pulled this one off but luckily my husband was ready with the blackberry camera

Oy! This stupid device got the better of ME. A friend was training her cat not to jump up on the sofa. As I entered the living room she said "oh, don''t mind the mat on the sofa - I am trying to teach Amber not to jump up" - it never crossed my mind that I should ask what it was or if I should move it prior to sitting. About 30 seconds after I planted my tush on the mat I recieved a very unwelcome shock! I tell you, I was trained in a nanosecond not to ever sit on the sofa (especially in a thin summer dress) without removing the mat first!

Thanks Yssie!
She's cute when she's not destroying our stuff for sure...though it was hard to remember how adorable they are when our Kosta Boda bowl was smashed to smithereens
38.gif

But it's just stuff. What they give back is priceless
35.gif

But I am going to try LTP's suggestion of using lemon scents etc
Fingers crossed!
