I think it's cruel. To me. That thing would scare the crap out of me everytime I walked into the kitchen. Honestly though, I wouldn't do it to my cats. Or to me.

Same here...I wouldn't do that to my cat...and especially at his age...I don't know if this is silly, but couldn't they have a heart attack, just like humans can?

Mild hilarious laughter warning.

How to keep your cats off of your counters and away from your plants!

Or, I''ve heard this works, too.

ScatMat
Oy! This stupid device got the better of ME. A friend was training her cat not to jump up on the sofa. As I entered the living room she said ''oh, don''t mind the mat on the sofa - I am trying to teach Amber not to jump up'' - it never crossed my mind that I should ask what it was or if I should move it prior to sitting. About 30 seconds after I planted my tush on the mat I recieved a very unwelcome shock! I tell you, I was trained in a nanosecond not to ever sit on the sofa (especially in a thin summer dress) without removing the mat first!
LOL

Sorry about your bum, Keepingthefaith! But that''s hilarious!

While I do think it is somewhat amusing, I agree with Gypsy. I just don''t think I could bring myself to do that to my cats.

I think it would make some cats more neurotic than they are already LOL. Though I would just love to find a way to get them to stop scratching all the furniture (mahogany wood table, end tables, and couches, etc) and chewing everything they can get their little mouths around!!

Cat''s don''t like lemon or other citrus odors. I have a favourite wool rug that my cat LOVES to dig his claws into. I just spray a little lemon/orange juice mixed with water on it about once a week, and it curbs the massive amount of damage he could be doing to it. Not sure if it would work with wood surfaces, but it has helped tremendously on our couches.

Also, try moving a scratching post (or 2 or 3) near your cats'' favourite places to scratch. They *should* gravitate toward the scratching post instead of your treasured furniture.
Exhibit A. My Hally drinking Orange Cranberry Flavored Iced Tea. To every rule, there is an exception: Hally is her name. Hally would find the loud kitchen thing funny and set it off for sh*ts and giggles. That''s my kitty.

I thought our cats were the only ones who enjoyed whatever drink we happen to be drinking...with the exception of bourbon thank goodness! Cause that would start getting expensive

Gottal love the way they just get in there with their little heads and start sipping
