We have buckets of pennies.
I hate them. :angryfire:

My own bank won't take them, even if I roll them.
Some stores WILL take rolls with manager approval and a disgusted look.
(I guess some scumbag once put a penny on each side of a roll with something else between the coins.) :angryfire:

There are machines near the door of the supermarket that will give you something less than their face value.
BAH!

I found out the Self-Pay registers at Home Depot will take as many pennies as you have.
Bring a bucket of pennies and a chair.
Feed them in to pay for something expensive.

Then return it for a cash (paper) refund.

Have you tried depositing the money into an account? I don't think they can refuse a deposit.

Our Albertson's has a coin star machine.. then you go to the checkout afterward to get your cash.. :)) Maybe you could see if one of your local grocery stores has one of those?

Do you get full value?

Kenny,
I love your ingenuity!

Do you have TD Bank in your area? They have self serve change counting machines, and it doesn't matter if you have an account with them or not, anyone can use it. You put the change in, it counts in it and gives you a receipt. You take the receipt to the teller, and they give you paper money.

think you get full value if you get a gift card. otherwise they take out a certain %. Think home depot is on there, along with starbucks and macys... at least the one near me has it.

Leave through the EXIT door.
Walk back to the entrance door and get a refund.
They'll give you paper money.

As for the supermarket counting machine, if you choose to put it in a gift card/certificate they wave the fee.

Gift Cards? EEK COUGH COUGH CHOKE CHOKE PUKE PUKE!

I read somewhere that some substantial percentage of funds in gift cards is never redeemed. (How nice for THEM.)
Often there are time limits on the funds or service fees. (How nice for THEM.)
Plus limits on where I can spend my money? (How nice for THEM.) :angryfire:
BAH!

hahaha Kenny, there is no time limit/fees in California and i think Michigan. it's illegal! and there are a lot of options.. i just never got past home depot and starbucks so i dont remember what else is there! Go check it out, you might find something you like. :)

Thanx, but I haven't seen a TD since I was in Canada.
I'm in California.

I'd rather have my skin peeled off while wearing a steep deep diamond from diamondsbylauren than enter a Starbucks.
As Garrison Keeler said, Starbucks should have named Fivebucks.

I would think a grocery store gift card is great way to "invest" those pennies, if it's your regular store, why not? Groceries are a constant necessity, it's not like a retail store that you only go to on occasion...

I believe so, yes. They are hoping you'll go through the line & purchase & whatnot, but we don't. :saint:

There you go! :appl:
You're my kind of girl. :wavey:

I live in an area where there is ZERO coffehouses. plus i dunno why, but my venti caramel macchiatos only costs me $3! I just transfer money onto my gift card from years ago and i get discounts, free soy, free syrups, and every few months, i get free drinks.

I'm sorry Kenny, I'll ask David, but I suspect we won't be able to accept your buckets of pennies. ;))

Yup, Coinstar does take 9.8 cents per dollar of counted change, but it beats rolling pennies or trying to get rid of them some other way.

Uhm no.
Not to me.
Money is money.
I have colored diamonds to buy.
I strongly object to this, just as I do to many other newfangled "services" where they suck more and more money out of us, like paying to RECEIVE a call. :angryfire:

I will not throw 9.8% of my money into the trash.
Home Depot it is.

Kenny, off topic, but where do you go for coffee? I'm in SM sometimes and would love some recommendations.

My kitchen.
I want a violet diamond.

Edit.
If you mean Santa Monica CA I recommend Broadway Deli at the south end of the Third Street Promenaded.

Check some of the other banks in your area. A bank near me has a coin machine that gives you full value. It prints out a receipt at the end that you take to the teller for BILL$.

haha good to know. i'll check it out next time we go shopping there.

i tried brewing all sort of stuff and nothing ever tastes right.

I agree--there are many banks in our area that count your change for you. I used to take our change to National City every so often, and they don't even have a machine. I gave it to a teller who counted it and then gave me cash. I was never asked if I was a customer. Maybe PNC is continuing this service.

find a new bank.
All banks have a change counter for business deposits.
If you have a very large amount they may require you come in on an off peak hour but I don't know of one local bank that wont run them if you have an account there.
I once took 50lbs+ of mixed change to my bank, took about 15 min for the machine to count it.
The banks will not take rolled coins, they have to be lose and ran through the counter.

Send them to me. I'll take care of them as if they were m own children.

It's a proven fact that gays can adopt pennies without any adverse consequences to pennies.

I would love to have them.

Okthxbye!

That makes cents.

Hmm, my bank takes my change, even rolls of them. Find another bank, I thought it was illegal for them to refuse legal tender?

Either that or go to a wishing well. With that many pennies, one of the wishes is bound to come true!

I don't know if there's a Metro bank near you but those here will take any amount of coins and exchange it into dollars for FREE. Better yet, you don't even have to be a customer of the bank (account holder).

I would not want to give that bank my service.

Money is money, right???

What if you had $1,000,000 in pennies? I'm not sure how you would store or transport that much change... but it would be INSANE for a bank to turn you away. Poor customer service, IMHO.

People hate pennies :nono: I know they're a pain, but they're still moolah :$$):

Caffe Luxxe on Montana Ave. Intelligentsia in Venice on Abbot Kinney.

I am NOT into saving coins/change, at all. I don't want it taking up space in my wallet, in my house, etc. I like to pay with cash, and I like to pay with exact change even if it means holding up a line for a few seconds longer while I count it out to a cashier. I don't need any extra weight in life!
