i know this might be an odd question, but im working on the setting for an engagement ring and i need to get her ring size..the only problem is i have no way of knowing it. she doesnt have any type of ring jewelry to compare sizes..i could ask a friend of hers for information, but i wanted to use that option as a last resort to keep it secret..but if i have to i will..my question, does anyone know of a way that i can ''secretly'' measure or figure out her size without it being obvious? if it helps shes about 5 ''4, 110-115 pounds, slim and petite..thanks for any advice/tips..the jeweler mentioned a 4.5 or 5 size..

What about asking her mother? If all else fails - wait until she''s asleep and take a delicate measurement with a string of thread.

I would recommend against paper or string sizers. They can easily be off by several sizes. I see it all the time. A quarter size relates to around .007", which is just the thickness of a piece of paper. Sizing is very sensitive, and anything short of her trying on a metal ring of the correct width won''t really do. It would be better to just guess at a size 4.5 or 5. Just be sure that the ring could easily be sized. A design like one where there are diamonds all the way around is best left for being sure.

One clandestine method is for you to conspire with a girfriend of hers to take her to the mall and get some silver rings "just for fun" at a kiosk. Or have a friend get a new ring and have her try it on. Just be sure that it fists on the correct finger. The same finger on opposite hands probably will fit differently.

You must measure the bars printing, and adjust their length to the actual listed dimensions.

-Size 5 is 1&15/16" inches
-Size 6 is 2&1/16" inches
-Size 7 is 2&3/16" inches
-Size 8 is 2&5/16" inches
-Size 9 is 2&6/16" inches
-Size 10 is 2&1/2" inches

The size of the last finger digit past the knuckle changes little. If you finger does get much larger between the knuckle and the palm of the hand allow for a large enough ring size.
