How to distinguish light leaks from bad photography in ASETs?

Many times I see what look like under the table leaks but other posters think it's just bad photography. How do you tell the difference?

White or black is leakage. green, red and blue are what you are wanting to see. The patterns of red, green and blue will tell you a LOT about the cut of your diamond. Backlit stones show white and top lit stones show black for leakage. (Assuming a black background.)

Look at the IS and ASET. In the IS, the stone is back-lit whereas the ASET uses black background. Notice you see pinkish "leakages" in the IS, which do not exist in the ASET. So some amount of these "leakage" is normal and expected.

The photography setups and light conditions are all different for vendors. For an example, if the back lighting is too strong and camera's exposure value is too high, any leakage will be exaggerated.

In some IS image, stones are tilted and not positioned in the centre. In some cases, the IS scope is not positioned or held properly (too close or too far from stone)

From my experience- photos taken using the handheld ASET are basically useless for true analysis.

True this!!
The DiBox does make it fairly straightforward. Follow the directions and the pics are consistent. But there's other systems and they vary.

Important to draw distinctions about interpreting leakage in round versus pretty much any fancy shape.
A lot of leakage is always bad in a round.....fancy shapes vary on this aspect.
