How to describe this tourmaline color ?

I purchased this tourmaline from Michael at Litnon in 2022.

The description said :

"Origin: Afghanistan

Weight: 3.79 carats

Size: 9.3 x 8.1 x 6.8 mm deep

Clarity: IF to VVS Top Clean gemstone!

Cut: Well cut cushion shape

Color: Slightly greenish blue"

It is hard to capture the colour in photos - the first one is under indoor (overhead) artificial light. The second is with daylight from outside (overcast day).

It almost seems like a pale blue aquamarine at times (indoor lighting) but then shifts. Every single photo looks different and sometimes even different from what I see when taking the photo !

Is there another term for this type of tourmaline colour / way of describing it?

Follow up question, I picked this stone because the colour seemed interesting - is this colour rare/unusual for tourmaline?

Appreciate any insights.

(Set in white gold as pendant)

Oh that's lovely! In the trade, they sometimes refer to that shade as "lagoon tourmaline," and you can see why. For me, it's not quite deep enough to be considered indicolite. Some folks call all blue tourmaline indicolite (except paraiba). I would probably just refer to it as blue-green tourmaline.

Thank you very much @Autumn in New England!

I'm thinking of getting it reset lengthways in a ring (with two diamonds either side) and wondering what to use for description re possible insurance.

It's a real chameleon in person - definitely on that knife edge of blue-to-green. Lagoon is a good term as I get lost in looking at it

Please be sure to return with the finished pix! I feel like I'm on a tropical island just looking at it!!

@Autumn in New England - will do!

This is a mock-up I just made with cardboard - does this look like it would work re proportions for a ring ?

Off to search for pic inspiration

I had been looking for this color or a suitable indicolite for some time, and never came across the "right" one. I eventually gave up. Can't wait to see this... love!!

ETA: To answer your question - a resounding yes!

Pretty stone! I can’t answer your question but it is nice to have a shifty stone. Beware your camera roll as you try to catch all the colors! LOL

I think your mock-up looks great. It could look good in multiple metal colors, too. If you are into rose gold, that might be a pretty choice.
