Hi, new to the site and first-time poster.

I just received my loose diamond purchase today and I'm having it appraised tomorrow. In the meantime, are there any good tricks you know of to assess a diamond in one's home? I've watched a number of the Good Old Gold videos putting diamonds in various lighting to get a sense of how the diamond performs. But, all I can think of is going out side or putting it under various lights. Anything you know of that is particularly useful?

If you have a loupe you can compare the inclusions in the diamond to those on the plots of your lab report.

It's wise to 'know your diamond'.
Then whenever you hand it over to someone, you can loupe it right there in front of them to be sure the one they hand back is yours.
You'll recognize the inclusions.

Please click few pics and post 'em here, post that we may try to assist you.

To check the color - take a small plain white pcs of paper, fold it then open it and place the diamond face down... check it under white light.

Take a white LED torch if you have (or use your cell phone's light) and hold the diamond face up, hold the torch right at the top of it and then tilt the diamond. Please check the below link first and post that do this test.

Hope this helps...
