How tight do you wear your ering?

AD92CA68-5832-46B1-AC43-2E3C60AB4F20.jpeg so I’ve lost 30 pounds and the great news — my fingers are shrinking. Bad news, all my diamonds bands are loose. For now, I’m only concerned about my ering. I don’t like when my rings are so tight they pinch and make my finger bulge out, but should my ring be moving up to my knuckle? How far does your ering move up on your finger by itself? Or is that normal?
Do you think this size band makes my finger fat bulge out? Bc I think it’s comfy. It’s a 4.75! My ering is a 5.75!

Hi @nala and congrats on the weight loss! So I like my rings not tight and just a tad loose but not loose enough they can slip off my finger. That's critical. I remember once my original ER just slid right the heck off my finger when it got cold inside and my fingers shrunk and I was hell no. So I wear it like 1/8th larger than my general finger size with a wedding band or two depending on how cold it is. More of an art really to figure out the perfect comfortable safe size for you. But too loose is too dangerous because you want to keep that baby ON your finger.

Thanks Missy! It’s never slipped off my finger and how scary for you. Could you please look at my pic above?

Nala, Looks good in your photo! Does your finger shrink/swell with temperature change?

That's what happened to me because it was cold inside and it just flew off and you're so right. It *was* scary. It happened in 2004 and right before our Italy trip. I mean the morning of our flight and I was like :o but I still took the engagement right with us on the trip and just made sure it was secure at all times.

Your picture looks tighter than I prefer to wear my rings, but I don’t think it looks at all bad. Do your fingers swell in summer though? If so, I would hazard a guess that the band in the photo might look and feel too tight in a few months, come warmer weather.

I’m the last person to listen to re: ring sizing though as I’m in a constant battle to get it right! My knuckles are bigger than the base of my fingers, plus I swell a lot in the heat. So rings that I can’t even get on my finger on really hot days spin like crazy in winter. I stack extra bands on like Missy to try and reduce the problem. My long term solution is to have both a summer and a winter ring suite - sadly, my plan doesn’t marry with my wealth at present.....

I like my rings loose. I am a 6.5 or so, but I wear a 7. The ring in your pic looks too tight to me, but JMO. If it's comfy, that's what matters! I like the look of a loose ring that has a lil movement and slides around.

Congrats @nala!

I wear mine 1/2 - 3/4 loose - far too loose, probably! Finger is 4, e-ring is 4-1/2, bands are 4-1/4 - 5. The smaller stackers keep the e-ring from sliding off in cold weather.

I think I’m gonna try a size 5, to allow for error. I’m gonna size up the band and size down my ering. Ty all!

I wear three rings (wedding band, anniversary band, and e-ring). My finger is smaller at the bottom (where my wedding band sits) and wider at the top of the stack (where my e-ring sits). My wedding band is a 7.25 and my anniversary band is a 7.5. My current e-ring is a 6.25 (kinda tight) but the new one I have on the way will be a 7.5. I think my actual ring size is probably about a 6.75? So I like them a bit loose, especially since I stack. :))

And I don’t think the band in your pic looks too tight, but I wouldn’t go any tighter.

Thank! Ok. Maybe I’ll size up and down to 5.25. Tbh, I think I’ve been overcompensating for my loose ering by wearing that super tight. To protect it.

I wear mine loose..probably 1/4 to 1/2 size loose...I just had mine sized due to weight loss and they are still slightly loose but they dont fall off

Congrats!!

Mine doesn’t make my finger bulge, but to get it off I have to shimmy it. It’s loose enough to spin, but not too loose either. I’m a 4.5

1/4 bigger. Spins in the coldest winter days but doesn't cut off circulation in the hottest summer days.

My size 8.5 feels right for the winter but it feels a little tight during the summer.

Pear ering is 4.25 but I have been ordering all of my HPD CBI rings as 4.5 so that I can wear them on either hand. They are a little loose but I figure that I will gain weight in my old age rather than lose it :lol-2:

Symphonie solitaire was spinning around the other day, but Trilogie and Queen Pari have not because they have 3.0mm shanks on the bottom.

HI:

As loose as is safely possible. I dislike the look of finger cleavage and don't like the feeling of tight rings or watches.

cheers--Sharon

I have a morbid fear of tight rings/ring muffin top. My rings are size 6.5 - 7( depending on the designer) for both right and left ring finger, leaving plenty of room for days of water retention.

I have always worn a size 6 ring. Ironically, I recently discovered that my fingers are much smaller than that...lol!! We live in a very humid climate, here, so my fingers swell, terribly. My fingers are a size 5.5...both ring fingers. Neither is bigger than the other; I can wear the same rings on each hand, without difficulty. I have compensated for swelling by wearing a size 6...without realizing it; it’s just what I’ve always worn, and what fit at the time I tried rings on.
My ER, WR & AR are all size 6. Thankfully, because I stack, they fit perfectly with very little slide. The AR I wear on my RH is a 5.75 (didn’t want to go down to 5.5). “Nancy” is a 5.5, and I wear her on my RH, without discomfort, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get her on, this summer; we shall see.
I think, safely, and for comfort purposes, 1/4-1/2 size larger than finger size is best.
The band in the photo looks fine, but may not be comfy in the heat.
Congratulations on your weight loss, @nala!!! Keep up the good work!!!

Congratulations on the weight loss. I wear mine loose; at least a 1/2 size difference because in the summer it seems like I need larger sized rings. As long as it doesn't fall off your hand I don't mind them loose even though they spin more.

Wow! Amazing weight loss.

I wear my loose, just like many above. I have swelly hands in summer, so I just add a band or two in winter to take up the space -- long fingers make it easier.

I'm in the exact same boat. I always thought I was a 6 but I'm really a 5.5. Both ring fingers are the same size so I can wear all my rings on either hand. The rings I stack are a 6 and are fine stacked, but alone, a 6 is really too big. I used to add sizing beads, but then realized I could really be sizing my rings to 5.75 ( I need the extra size to get over my knuckles). Even a 5.75 is loose in the cold but not too loose that it would fall off. I don't like my rings to be so tight that there is any bulge of the skin. I think that your ring looks a bit tight and I would generally want it a bit larger if it were mine.

@nala I'm looking at the photo on my laptop now and yes your band looks too tight to me. Sorry before I was looking at the photo on my iPhone and I guess I am at the point where the small pics on the phone are not enough for me now. I see a bit of finger squeezing going on there. Love your polish by the way.

I like mine semi-tight, meaning they can move around my finger but don’t spin freely. Because of the large size difference between my knuckles and base of my finger I have to* wear stacking bandstand hold the ering closer to the knuckle as sizing beads aren’t enough help by themselves.

*Not that I’m complaining... stacking bands have become a bit of an obsession

I think how tight depends on how wide the band is and how many other rings you wear stacked with it. My fingers fluctuate about 1/4-1/2 size during the day depending on how warm I am (I run hot so overheat easily).
My ering is about 3-4mm thick under the basket but narrows to about 1.8mm at the bottom of the shank. It’s a 6.5. My wedding band is a 7 and is 3-4mm thick with a flat inside finish (not comfort fit). It stays mostly put because of this even tho it’s a 1/2 size too big and will come off easily if I don’t have my ering holding it in place. Because of the wedding ring, my ering is slightly snug when it’s the right size by itself. Both ‘walk’ sideways slightly throughout the day but not badly. I don’t like it when they can’t be moved at all or leave dents when they’re taken off.
That was a bit of a ramble! Sorry. TL;DR it depends on the width of your bands and how many are stacked. If your wedding set is jointly as wide as the band in your first post, it looks a bit too tight to me
