1x daily but I have found a way to get by with washing my hair every 3-4 days. It sounds weird but it works for me, thanks to dry shampoo and hot rollers.

Another less frequent hair washer! I shower once a day and wash my hair once a week. Probably sounds gross but it works out well and I typically don’t get complements on my hair until day 5 or 6. For the days after hair wash day, all I have to do is brush it. When I was younger, I washed it every other day, then moved to twice a week, and now once. If I get super sweaty, I wash it more often but I try to time intense exercise, massages, etc. with hair wash day. Honestly, I’d be in better shape if I had less difficult hair. I’m caucasian but I have thick, wavy, very course hair.

I feel your pain. I was roommates with a good friend years ago for 6 months and during that time he never washed his sheets, so his room always stank.

Now he is a weekly houseguest at ours on weekends and our guest room smells like his body odor. He used to shower daily but not anymore, and our cream couch in the guest room is stained brown with his sweat. We have tried hinting but it doesn't work. :(

You're one generous host and friend!!!! I'd probably have more than hinted by now...

Doesn't sound gross at all. My best girlfriend only washes her hair once a week because it doesn't need to be washed more frequently. She has curly dry hair and once a week works for her. I wish I could get away with washing it so infrequently but my hair needs washing every other day. She used to do the no (sham)poo thing but now she is back to just shampooing it once a week.

@Daisys and Diamonds , yes you hit the nail on the head - he's a good friend and incredibly kind and generous in other ways. I have known him for 20+ years and he's not particularly clean, and in the last 10 years or so he seems to care less and less. I suspect it has more to do with him being single for so many years he's sort of settled into a permanent bachelor mode. If he had someone to impress I suspect he would clean up more often!

Absolutely agree on the pleasure of fresh sheets - it's such a lovely feeling! Add a cozy duvet and thick and soft mattress topper makes me feel like I am sleeping on clouds.

@kipari , believe me it's incredibly hard. Short of an ultimatum, I don't know what else to do since hinting and telling him outright he stinks doesn't work!

during winter months, once per day and usually in the am. In the summer, one nice morning shower and a quick shower rinse after working out or in the swimming pool. I'm off to Hawaii for one week and will probably take 2 showers per day as the weather will be humid and warm.

Twice a day. Nothing wakes me up like a scalding shower and some peppermint soap. And nothing puts me to sleep better than a scalding shower and floral conditioner.

I shampoo every other day and condition daily. My hair is fine and light - it's almost dry by the time I'm dressed. It won't hold any style without a frying device and half a bottle of product, so I normallly just tie it back out of the way... I like to imagine that it looks like I did style it but now it's getting in the way, but I'm guessing I'm not fooling anyone

Once in the morning, once right before bed. Sometimes I do a bath instead of a shower. I can't stand the idea of getting into bed unclean....and yet my cats jump in, so go figure. This is why I change my sheets 3x/week. I'm finicky about clean. I shampoo my hair every 2 - 3 days depending on how many exercise classes I've been to.

Be honest, studies show that only 65% of Americans shower/bathe everyday. No judgement, just curious.

Feel free to add explanation :)

I am surprised to hear it is not higher. I shower daily, sometimes twice. I try to workout prior to my morning shower. If i do, its is a one shower day. If I can't fit in my workout prior to leaving the house, I work out later in that day followed by a second shower. So one or two.

Oh how awful
Its a really hard one, he must be a really close friend to visit so often
To offend or not ?
Maybe a couch cover is the price of friendship and an easy out
maybe he grew up in a drought prone place.
For the sake of friendship maybe give him the benefit of the doubt at this stage

We had a limited water supply when i grew up so we knew how to take short showers and save the water for the garden

When my dearly loved father in law lost the plot with altzimers the time came for him to go into a specialist facility
My SIL helped clear out his house, said she just threw his sheets out, they were beyound washing, it had been so long since they were changed
I just love hoping into freshly changed sheets, it's one of life's simple pleasures and i feel sorry for people who don't get this

This is so sad and gross. I love clean sheets.

What an interesting thread! :wavey:
I shower every morning but only wash my hair about every 6 or 7 days. It actually stays very clean up until that last day when I feel kinda grimy. That being said I only exercise on the days that I wash my hair.. maybe that's why it stays clean for so long. Also on the day of the hair wash and exercise I wash all my bedding and my glasses and earrings!
When we go away I try to wash my hair the day we leave and not wash it again until we come home.. only works if we go away for less than a week.
Reading this back I sound insane.. maybe I am! lol:lol:
I also change my pajama top every night because at this age - you ladies in your 50s understand - I feel like I sweat at night.

A few months back on a friday night we had a daily in our fuse box
We lost power to the kitchen and that ment no hot water
There was some kind of emergency at the town's waste water plant so the weekend duty plumber was unable to fix the fault till monday
I had one cold bath - it was not durring hot weather so wasn't overly pleasent but i desided as i grew up swiming on cold days a cold bath would be eaiser to ease into that a cold shower.
it was better than feeling all grimy and gross

Eek!!:-o

I take minimum 1 shower a day...but often 2-3 times a day..once in the morning and once before I go to bed, but if I exercise I also shower immediately afterwards.

I used to wash my hair everyday, but now every 2 days.

I *think* I've read that only about 40% of people use deodorants. So if the overlap of people showering more than 1 X /day and not using deo a is a perfect 100% all's well. But on the rare occasion I take public transportation, I gather the impression that that's not the case

I rarely use deodorant. I don't need it. Many people do but I am not one of those. Unless it is a day I know I will be sweating a lot for whatever reason. I generally don't sweat when I am out and about. Just the way my body is I guess. And I always shower after I work out because then I am sweating.

I hear you re public transportation. Unpleasant in so many ways. :knockout:

YMMV. I take it you have to wear deodorant or you stink. Take my word for it I don't stink. At least when it comes to body odor.

Haha same. This is why I wash the sheets so often. Plus, animals are often cleaner than people. Not my cats though. They are pretty filthy.

I definitely do! I seem to have no control of my body temperature - I’m too cold in winter and too hot and sweaty (when others seem fine) in summer. I envy those who smell naturally fragrant and would much rather not cover myself in chemicals. The emojis were at the combination of no deodorant and no showering that kipari refered to!

Totally! Living in NYC believe me I have smelled more than my fair share of YUCK with some people using the combo of no showering and no deodorant and a very unpleasant BO. It is gagworthy. :knockout:

My philosophy of life is do what you want as long as it doesn't affect me negatively in any way so you get where I am leaning with this...

City public transport is the worst. I’m fairly short and the worst height which puts my nose at about average male armpit height when they’re using the overhead stability holds on tubes. It can make for unpleasant journeys, and always makes me a little paranoid that I could be mistaken and it’s actually me who’s smelling.

THAT made me  and  at the same time!!!
I don't need deo if I shower twice. Try to avoid it for the chemicals.

But another pet peeve of mine are the 48 h deodorants. Hello... It's not Ok to try to cover up stink with chemicals. It rarely works!!! #cowboywash

Haha I hear you. We never had super clean cats but they were relatively clean compared to Oliver. Oliver takes the cake. He gets, let’s just say, occasionally dirty when using the litter box. And we were bathing them weekly during our RW gate and well that was an interesting experience. Lol

I spot clean Oliver daily.

Snowy used to be like that. He was from a hoarding situation and he never really knew the basics of life. Ninja had to show him how to cat and now he no longer walks out of the litterbox with poop on his tail. He's quite clean now.

I also find that using the Breeze litter system is so much cleaner. I'll never do litter again!

Glad Snowy keeps himself clean as the driven snow now. Couldn’t resist. He is a lucky baby you rescued him from that hoarding situation!

Ours do not enjoy baths. Bobby and Oliver are unhappy when we have to bathe them. And believe me so are we!

I’m going to google the Breeze system. I’m intrigued. Thanks.

This thread has changed course a bit, but I like it!.

My husband or I shower with our dog Noah once a month. We would do it more often, but I heard it would dry out his skin.

I actually hate deo too. I am extremely dry skinned, can get a reaction to deos. I do not sweat. I usually use something natural because I am sort of “supposed to”. Nothing happens if I don’t.

I love beauty and bath routines and prefer to immerse myself in a bath after a shower. At least once a day. Use tons of wipes, washcloths, etc. Do my hair every 2-3 days max., more if I sweat, hate hair stink. Do clean and take care of face twice a day.

I never share a towel. I prefer to change them daily but twice a week is better for the environment. Dishtowels changed daily. I disinfect most everything in the laundry. Change most clothes after two wears max no matter what they are nighties too. Always wear dresses for night too. Ubderwear changed 1-2 x a day.

Clean and bleach toilets and sinks several times a day. Do floors pretty much daily.

So many people disgust me. It is true that a high percengage of people are very unclean, it can really shock me. It is ok if people do not have the same standards exactly but many people have no standard of hygiene at all.

I used to wash my hair every day - religiously - but now, as I've gotten older and my scalp produces so much less oil, every second day, plus any day I'm going anywhere particularly nice. As for showering - most days, but I have to be honest - not every day. In Australia, I was a twice-a-day person, but in the US north east - probably 3 out of 4, with a wash on the other day. Everybody has something going for them - mine is that I just don't smell. All my life, I've been like that. I don't know why - extra effective filtration system? Who knows. If my friends and I all go out for Thai food, for example, I'll be the only person who doesn't smell of garlic the next day. My shoes never smell. People often ask me (most recently my dental tech, for example, while cleaning my teeth) what perfume I'm wearing, when I'm wearing none. It's possibly because I drink a massive amount of water every day, and always have.

On the other hand, I am a religious teeth cleaner, hands washer and foot and hand nail cleaner, and I like a really - and I mean REALLY - clean house. And really clean pets, pet beds and pet toys. And clean sheets and towels. And a very clean husband, in particular! :)

I do the same! Change sheets on weekly hair wash day, wash my hair at home the day of or day before a trip, only do hard core exercise right before hair wash day - we are kindred spirits! I felt like I was reading about myself. :)
