I recently came across a Jeweler who states he will charge me the same of what he would pay for a stone and then 1000 for his profit. Is that reasonable?

Then I was thinking to buy a stone on line but then I''ve heard that Jewelers not only hate mounting other people''s stones, they will not set it properly. So in order to avoid that I will have to find a reputable jeweler but how much should I be expected to be charged for this service?

You can still buy online. Many of the sellers will provide rings and set the stone for you.

If a stone comes here to be checked out I will also make arrangements to have it set in your ring as well.

Got a great diamond setter, who is an absolute fine craftsman, who only sets stones, (so he does it very well) rather than a guy who does everything.

Plus I stand over him to supervise, and make sure it''s right.

I''ve heard of some diamond brokers charging % of the diamond cost ( read somewhere that 20% is standard, but it could have been anywhere) -- but a flat fee is something I haven''t heard before. $1000 sounds reasonable as long as your spending over a certain amount, I guess. Percentage makes more sense to me though.

You can always buy a diamond online and have the setting sent to the vendor and have them set it in the setting.

20-100.

As in 20% to 100% is standard profit on a diamond? 100% ??? OUCH. Double ouch.

no. 20 to 100 dollars to set a diamond bought elsewhere.

Crap Julie, you nearly gave me a heart atack. LOL.
