H(color), Ideal (cut), .90(carat), Round (diamond) ,VS1

I know this is a crazy question.....but, take it easy on me.

you can put in your specs using the ''pricescope your diamond'' tool at the top of the page to see what similar stones are being sold for. also check this link

I got about $4500 to spend on the rock(not inc ring)....any suggestions??

bring that vs clarity down to si and you''re golden.

I vote keep the VS1 and bring the size down.

Actually, it all depends on YOUR priorities.
You are asking us for OUR priorities.

Go look at a bunch of clarities, colors, and sizes.
You will form an opinion based on YOUR direct experience.

I think the only thing we all agree on is cut.
Get the best cut.

How's this?:

Is this really a good one? I guess it looks good (from the measurments) can you see the difference between vs1/si1?

Try a search for ''In house'' diamonds...

I tried these specs: ''Round shape, 0.9–0.99 cts, D–H color, VS2–SI2 clarity, 58–63% depth, 53–62% table, $100–4800$''

And there are nine on the list.

''eye-clean'' means that you can''t see inclusions with your unaided eye.
depending on the type of inclusions and your eyesight the inclusions may or may not be readily seen with a microscope.

Doug,

My two friends have suggested the two options anyone can see here, in the search by cut database, which is a nice utility. James Allen subscribes to that utility''s use as well, and sometimes has options show up in it. My guess is the one you found is from the virtual db, and may or not be a good one, till more is known about it (though, truth be told, I purchased a virtual diamond from him 20 months ago).

The James Allen looks good to me! I got my stone from James Allen and I absolutly loved dealing with them! Jim personally went over my diamond and made sure it was eye clean ect before telling me it was ok for purchase. I got a .83 carat, Ideal Cut, GIA cert, G color, and SI2 clarity....completely eye clean.....also if you wouldn''t mind going a bit smaller or lower in clarity check out his signature series diamond. When I looked at mine he wanted to give me something to compare it to and he brought in a .80ct, AGS0, Ideal cut, H color and SI clarity and it was GORGEOUS the hearts and arrows pattern was PERFECT! They are good stones to check out as well..........

ira is right, the stone you posted is virtual (not in stock). that''s not to say it''s any worse, but it would be good to get more information on it if you want to compare apples to apples.

Here''s my totally unprofessional, yet long-culminated opinion...

Go for a little extra size over the clarity. My husband and I chose an H VVS2 (ideal cut) for my ering. At the time, I was convinced that I could see the clarity differences. I love it, but in the past 5 yrs of marriage I''ve often thought "darn this thing is dirty, wish I''d just gone for larger size over the vvs2 clarity." I''m meticulous about cleaning it, but I''ll still never get it jeweler clean, so there''s little point in having such high clarity. And how many people ask "oh, what a great ring... what''s the clarity?" They all want to know the size.

That said, stick with ideal cut. The sparkle factor will always dazzle--even when the ring''s dirtier than it should be.

Good luck!

Not quite sure what the whole virtual diamond thing is about I just wouldn''t want you to be scared away from it because it''s such. I agree you shoiuld get more info but here is another topic where someone was hesitant about thier virtual stone and ended up being thrilled with it, not sure which vendor they are talking about though. You could always PM them and ask:

I would say go for equal size and quality. True most of us ladies DO value size for the engagement ring. However nothing sparkles and shines like a well cut diamond. Going down on your clarity wouldn''t be a problem. There are threads upon threads of all of us raving about our SI stones. Same with color...but thats a more personal thing. I just really would not sacrifice cut for size. My ring is .83ct and really when I went into Jareds to look at settings it looked the same size at thier 1ct rings. A well cut diamond will sometimes look bigger. Also well cut diamonds that sparkle like mad will catch someones eye before a larger dull one.

I guess I am confused....look at this...the price seems pretty good.

IF i call what questions should I ask.......is there anything that stands out about this ring?
Notably, WF and James Allen both represent "virtual diamonds" not in inventory (edited to add: in addition to a stock of diamonds that they have already reviewed, selected, in the case of WF, crafted, and own themselves as part of their regular stock). On the one you show here, as it says: "call for availability," that's an immediate tip that it's one of those.

To read more about the practice, see here. To take best advantage of the practice, consider both checking out the 2 diamonds mentioned way earlier from WF in this thread, and read the link below my signature.
