How much to recut a diamond!?

I was wondering...does anyone know how much it costs to re-cut a diamond, and how much carat weight on average it removes??

Mine cost a several hundred dollars to recut and it lost weight but was worth it. But no one can give you an answer except a diamond cutter. They will base the cost on how much time will be needed to do the planning, recut and polishing. They didn''t recut every facet on my stone, just some weight trimming and minor improvements.

The cost of recutting depends on a few things:
1. Current carat weight of the stone
2. How perfect/ideal you want it to be; super duper, excellent, vg?
3. How clean is the stone as inclusion can make it harder to work around.

I expect a few hundred dollars. As for weight loss, again it depends on the 3 criteria I listed above. Only a cutter who has the stone in front of him can evaluate the diamond and give you an estimate.
