would appreciate if somebody could chime in. This is my first time buying a diamond, and of course i like what I see so far. The seller has offered this on a 14K gold ring with 0.35 ct of side diamonds (5 on each side) for $5900. Is this a good price? Comes with 30 day no hassle returns(or so he says).

Please don't buy this diamond. It is both clarity enhanced and graded by EGL Israel. There are a lot of threads on why clarity enhanced stones are a bad idea. If you use the search function you will come across a lot of information that. EGL Israel is notorious for over-grading stones. So even though it is called a G VVS2 the real color (and by "real" I'm going to mean the color it would be graded by GIA) could be several letters lower. And any clarity grade is an iffy proposition in an enhanced stone.

What is your budget? And do you have any color, clarity and/or size guidelines you want to stay within? If you provide that info the good folks of PS will try to help you find some stones to consider.

I also just ran the numbers through the HCA and it gets a score of 3.7. You generally want to stay under 2. (And if you don't know what the HCA is feel free to do a search on that too as there is a wealth of information.)

thanks DeeJay.
I appreciate your response and do understand the implications of the EGL certificate :( have been doing some reading before posting this up).

That said, what should one pay for this considering that GIA would grade this up to 2 steps lower on color, cut and clarity?

The clarity enhancement makes it impossible to me to venture a guess on price. There are different types of enhancement (drilling, filling, etc.), some of which are permanent and some of which are not. Without detailed info on that I can't even consider guessing. Maybe someone who is very knowledgeable on CE will chime in. We also need a lot more info on the setting, including some sort of specs on the side stones.

Let me reiterate my suggestion that you provide some guidelines and see if the PSers can come up with other options for you.

Deejay, I ran the HCA and got this advice:

Total Visual Performance 3.5 - Very Good - Worth buying if the price is right

I need to find if the price is right.

Regarding the side diamonds, they are
Diamond Color: D
Diamond Clarity: VS
Carat: 0.36
total number: 12 (6 on each side).

Chikoo,
We have examples of stones graded H by EGL and N by GIA.
Do not assume a 2 grade max variation.

DeeJay has given you the right info.
Run away from this diamond.
Or, if you really want to purchase it, offer 1/2 of what the seller is asking.
But more to the point- are you sure you want a clarity enhanced diamond?
