Hi, I would really love to get some opinions on this.
How much is a reasonable price for a 1/2 carat RBC that is G/H, VS1/VS2, diameter 5.03 x 4.94,
thin to thick girdle, and only "good" polish & symmetry? Everything else is "fine" but not ideal.
No fluoresence, attractive crushed ice appearance, solitaire white gold setting.

Thanks!!

you can check prices of similar stones under the prices tab at the top, -->Price Comparison.

I can''t seem to find one that is exactly like this, but I asked more or less for personal opinion. =)

I might add, I was reading the topics regarding the crushed ice look, how some like it and some don''t, so that is another reason why I want to know how much any given person would pay for this particular ring. Maybe someone wouldn''t buy it at all, ever. That''s what I''d like to know.

Which lab graded the stone and who is selling it? That will also make a difference to the asking price.

Does this diamond have a major lab report with the split grading you mention? Or does it have one of those grading cards from IGI or EGL or similar?

There is no lab report, only 2 separate jewelry store appraisals... neither is extensive or very detailed.
It is a family ring, and we are trying to decide if it is worth selling,
or just keep it and make it a pendant necklace or part of an earring set.

What I would do is get an independant appraisal and tell the appraiser you intend to sell it and what would a suitable selling price be. The problem is that it is usual to only recoup 30 - 50% of what you originally paid and as the diamond does not have a GIA report you could get even less...Maybe the pendant idea would be best but an appraiser can give you a better idea.

By independant you mean someone certified? Would the jewelry store employee that did the last appraisal on it count?
I asked them to map it out, and while they sort of did, there are no percentages listed anywhere. Only "fine" or "good."
This diamond originally cost $1,000... is it unreasonable to ask for $800-900? (In your opinion.) If I include both appraisals in the sale?
In the meantime I will get an independant appraisal. Or should I just get it lab graded?
I don''t understand why if I sell this myself I only get 30-50% of what was originally paid.
Is it worth more depending on when it was first sold? Say, 70''s?

Hi Cristina

I meant to add the appraisal tool for you earlier but had to leave the computer, here is the appraiser tool below.

https://www.pricescope.com/appr_list.aspx

Its really difficult to advise on price, an appraiser who does not sell jewellery would be your best bet, a person who sells jewellery does not necessarily have the same expertise, experience, qualifications and unbiased opinion as an independant appraiser. Unfortunately with the resale price this is very often the case, with diamonds it is rather like buying a new car, as soon as you drive it away you lose a considerable amount and it is similar with diamonds. The article below goes into further detail,
