How many mm deep are your studs?

HI all,

So as many of you know i received my 2tcw studs last week from my DH. I adore them except i really think they are too high. From the bottom of the basket, to the top of the table is 6mm (5mm to the top of the clasps) I said to the jeweller that i thought they were too high, and he is going to reset them, but what is normal?

I looked on whiteflash and BGD but i cant see dimensions. Even my DH who never notices anything thinks they are too high. Maybe also because my ears are so small and thin, that they look even deeper. Also i sleep in them, and i havent had a problem in the past, but these are not that comfortable to sleep on...

Thank you

Mine are 4 mm from the table to the tip of the martini basket - .75 ctw. I always remove all my jewelry before I go to bed, which is one reason I didn't get screw backs.

I hope you're able to get these lovely earrings adjusted to fit you comfortably!

Sushi, first of all, we'd need to know the depth of your stones. It really is irrelevant to compare smaller studs to yours since smaller stones are not going to be as deep!

Do you have a photo of the earrings from side/profile view? Could be that they are able to be reasonably lowered in the setting, but not sure it will be much less. A well cut 1ct stone is normally in the 4mm-ish range in depth if I recall (too lazy to look this up, but i think that's about right), but then add the setting and could get nearly to 6.

hello!

Wow these photos were nearly impossible to take! they are terrible, but i hope you get the idea. As i said i think they sit too high for my tiny ears, and also as my ears stick out a bit, my DH was saying last night that you see the side more than the face up diamond. I hope i dont need to have my ears pinned back to solve this problem hahah.

The depth is both 3.96mm. of the stones. The depth of the earrings are approx 6mm from the bottom of the basket to the top of the table. it doesnt sound a lot but there is a space of almost 2.5mm from the cutlet to the bottom of the basket...which just looks odd..

I have had to take my 2nd studs out, as they sit almost tight to the ear in the 2nd hole and it makes the 1carat stones look even more odd..

The jeweller says he will reset, but are they normal? Im not sure if he will remake them or cut them down.... any thoughts please team?

thank you !

That seems like a fair bit of extra space to me. Could you have the jeweler do a 4 prong martini? The martini style seems to sit a bit lower. I have 1/3 carat in martinis - not really comparable, I know - but the bottom of the diamond nearly touches the setting so there's very little extra space.

I measured mine today. Mine are 0.80 each and are 7 mm from the table to the ear. I asked them to be set low, but I guess they aren't from reading this. I forget how deep the diamonds are.

Every time I see the title of this thread my mind goes to a certain BeeGees song!

I wouldn't want that large a gap between the stone and the base of the earring either - I hope you get it worked out!

My .80 ctw bezel set (they were custom platinum at the time) seems somewhere a bit over 3mm high.

.40 stones are around 3mm high, so that makes sense. But really none of our studs really can be compared unless they are the depth of hers.

I do think they could be set a bit lower, but they may have to get a larger basket setting to set them lower.
