I was driving to work today, thinking about commutes, and was wondering how long PSers drive to work. I'm lucky that my commute is only 15 minutes each way down a major highway in PA (the turnpike). Before FI and I moved to PA, I had an hour long commute each way to work, and that was so exhausting. I applaud those who travel far on a daily basis.

So, how long is your work commute (including dreaded traffic)?

7-8 minutes if I make all of the green lights.

10-12 with traffic/bad light luck.

Depends on traffic, but usually 20-30 minutes. I live in another town but it''s all freeway.

Mine''s 20-30 min depending on traffic. I don''t have to get on the highway otherwise it''d be a whole lot longer.

Usually between 20 - 25 minutes depending on traffic/weather. I only have to get out of my neighborhood and take a main road into downtown and park. I love it! When I first started my job I still lived at home and that was about 40+ minutes away and it was the worst in the winter. We get a lot of bad weather here and sometimes I''d have to leave more than an hour early to make it in on time.

Commute to law school door-to-door is about an hour. Walk five minutes to train, sit on train, walk two minutes to school.

This is a touchy subject with me and I was JUST complaining to FI about it

My boss approached me and said that I need to be here by 8:30 because that''s the official office hours (8:30 to 5). I get here between 9 and 9:15 but I stay until 8:30/9pm almost every night.

Here''s why it makes me angry. In order to be here at 9am, I have to be on the road at 8:20. That means I can wake up at 7am, eat breakfast at home, wait for my DD to wake up on her own, feed her, drive calmly to work, and be on the road for just 40 minutes. And MIL has time to eat her breakfast, take a shower, and prepare some things before we arrive. When I get to work, I turn on my computer and start working immediately.

In order for me to be at work at 8:30, I have to leave my house at 7am. That means waking up at 5:30am to get ready, waking DD up an hour earlier so she''s cranky as heck, forcing her to scarf down her bottle, and if she doesn''t eat quick enough, stopping and having MIL (who has to wake up way earlier to do everything she needs to do) give her the bottle when she gets there. I''m in traffic for 1.5 hours and by the time I get to work I''m stressed, frustrated, and tense. I turn on my computer but don''t get to work immediately because no one is available, everyone is getting breakfast which is what I end up doing also because I''m starving. And I STILL leave at 8:30/9pm.

15 minutes depending on city traffic. Work and live in the city (Boston). I refuse to have anything longer than a 15 minute commute. DH has an hour commute each way every single day. Don''t know how he does it.

Almost an hour

1:20 door to door each way. Yippe.

15 minutes to the parking structure, then 10 minutes to park and walk to my office. So 25 minutes door to desk.

Usually 40 minutes in the morning and between 40 minutes and an hour on the way home, depending on traffic. I live in the Chicago area, and I consider my commute to be pretty average around here. Before I moved here several years ago, I lived literally 1 mile from work, so this was a bit of an adjustment. I''ve actually come to like my commute on most days - it''s really the only time I have to myself.

In the morning, 25-35 min door to door.

In the evening, 35-45 min door to door.

It''s about 70% highway, 30% back roads.

I wish it was shorter, but FI and I live almost perfectly in between our two employers.

Approx 10 min - without traffic. 30min to an hour if ONE car gets pulled over, accident, or break down. Love NYC.

30 seconds. I walk from the back of my house to the front of my house to my home office. Unless I''m traveling and then it depends on how long my flight is.

20-30 mins during the holidays or some Fridays when there is no rain or accident.

Longer usually, closer to 40.

In the evening, about 45 minutes.

It used to be an hour and a half each way.

35 min door to door unless the subway has issues, then...who knows

. But, I''ve been slacking and leaving my house 5 minutes before I''m supposed to be at work

Noone has complained yet, and I stay late to make up the time, but I need to get it together:-)

3 min walk uphill to the subway, 25 minute subway ride, 5-7 minute walk to work.

Fiery, I am sorry about the schedule thing at your work. Can you tlak to HR and officially change your hours to 9:30-6:30 or something?

20-25 min w/o traffic or weather

up to 45 min if there is an accident or snow

(I live in Denver and have to travel to the foothills.)

5 minute drive to commuter rail
23 minute ride on train
15 minute walk to office building

So around 45 minutes each way without having to sit in traffic (I can get work done on the train). I''m genuinely happy with anything under an hour and will tolerate up to an hour an a half each way, so long as it''s the commuter rail and not the T or traffic.

Firey. I''m sorry

I think Bella''s idea is great! I hope you are able to work something out.

Just a couple minutes each way. When I still lived at home and my job was a few towns away it was 30 min each way.

Old job was 25 minutes each way

At the moment- no commute- work from home.

My new job that I start in May is going to be about 40 minutes. I am going to have to try out a few routes to try and get that down though.

It depends on how I get there. My office is about 4 miles from my house but the parking is ridiculous so that''s what takes time. If I can ride my scooter to work it only takes me about 10 minutes total because I can park it at the bike rack on the sidewalk right in front of my building.

If I drive my car I have to park either in a parking deck 6 blocks away or in a lot about 10 blocks away. So then it takes me about 15 minutes to get there, maybe 5 minutes to park and either a 5 or 15 minute walk to work. (The lot is down a huge hill and it takes a while to get up the hill if you want to remain sweat-free.) So driving to work takes me about 20-35 minutes.

23 miles distance.
25 to 45 minutes each way, depending on the time of day.

It takes me 15 minutes if I drive or bike; parking and walking from the garage constitutes the majority of the drive commute because I only live 3 miles away from my office. It takes me 20-30 minutes if I walk and ride the bus (which I usually do).

I have never lived more than 10 miles from work in my whole life and will likely have a 40-60 minute commute when I start my job in September. I am so terrified that it will, mentally, kill me.

It used to be less than a minute, because I only lived a couple blocks from my office. But, my firm just opened an additional office in the next town, and I''m in that office now, so my commute is now about 12 minutes each way. That''s still not very bad, and I''m not minding it as much as I thought I would after 10 years with a <60 second commute!

About 30 minutes - all highway though, so its not a bad drive.

2.5 miles, about 5 minutes. If i hit no lights, 3-4 minutes. i go through 3 lights.

easiest commute EVER. i got REALLY lucky when i found my job- it wasn''t intentional at all to live so close to my job, it just so happened that DH''s house was so close. if i didn''t have to go down a divided highway and spend the majority of the day in car marketing, i''d ride my bike!

About 15 min. It used to be 30 but then we moved. DH used to drive 15 min and now has to drive 30 lol It''s a give and take relationship
